Chapter 4
Honglan Mountain

Part Two

Chains so thick shackle a child so small in place. His wrists are bound together, with a chain only as long as his forearm. His hair is long, the longest the man has ever seen. They disappear into the mountain of cut flesh, stepped on by moths and beetles and worms.

The man hardly sees the child's face but--

he sees a pair of sun-like eyes.

The man finally finds his voice and cries a name he does not remember.

"Yun-ge!"

Countless swords strike down but he tirelessly parries them away.

73...

He does not understand why he is protecting this child.

189...

471...

He still does not remember who Yun-ge is but seeing these swords aiming at the quiet child in his protection, his heart hardens as he does his best.

520...

862...

One last sword, filled with the bloodlust of all blades that he warded off, flies down in a speed faster than before.

A loud clang resounds in the cave.

1001!

The last of the swords disappears in a flash of white and he cannot believe the absurdity of it all. Looking at the flesh beneath his feet, it makes him realize that every single night, ever since Yun-ge was stuck down here, that this child had his flesh cut off by one-thousand and one swords.

Just as he is about to put his sword away, danger appears once more. It makes his skin crawl, the alarms in his head violently ringing. He raised his gaze and...

... found an enormous blacksmith's hammer pummelling down, ready to crush the quiet child.

...

Dawn arises but he cannot even see the sun. The torches lighting up the underground cave are not enough to illuminate the entire space but he can clearly see how broken that child is.

He approaches the child who does not move. The quiet, shallow breaths that come from his little mouth sounds weak and almost inaudible. An ordinary human would never have heard it. With a wave of his hand, the wind sweeps away the corpses of insects and worms, of rotten flesh and dirt.

The ground soaked in blood reveals itself, displaying symbols written in white. It is a language that he has grown familiar with after leaving Tonglu Mountain.

The ancient language of Wuyong.

It stuns him, not expecting to discover a language long forgotten in time.

He reads the symbols, each line worse than the last. This array written in ancient script tells of how it suppresses nature itself, and how nature must always submit to heaven's will. It tells of how nature should be suppressed, of how nature should learn the consequences of going against a god.
