My Arrogant Neighbor

Alex had shipped me a care package from home. It was delivered the next morning as I was getting ready. Halfway through brushing my teeth, there was a knock at the door.

Just as I was about to open the door, I realized I was only in a short white robe with nothing underneath. I hurriedly put on some shorts underneath and made my way back to the door where the person knocked once again.

The toothbrush was hanging out of my mouth as I greeted him. The man was holding a rather large box and his eyes widened at my appearance, checking me from head to toe, his eyes lingering a little on my legs.

I cleared my throat and he panicked, fumbling with his words.

"Sorry, um, Ms. Simmons?" I gave him a judging look and signed the clipboard he held out to me before trading him for the package. "Have a nice day Miss." I rolled my eyes and closed the door behind me with my foot.

Looking over at the clock, I noticed I was already behind and was going to be late for work.

"Shoot." Throwing on the first outfit I saw, I grabbed my purse and keys and made my way out of my apartment. If it wasn't bad enough, the elevator seemed to be moving at a really slow rate and I could already feel my palms start to sweat. Showing up late on the second day of work would not be a good start to my week.

When the doors finally opened, I rushed out as fast as I could, not wanting to risk being stopped by anyone. I knew it would take longer to get there by walking so I hailed a cab and quickly got in.

On the ride over, I couldn't help but think about tomorrow night with the whole bar situation and then Saturday with Kaden. Overall, Kaden seemed like a great guy. He was in college, worked out and had a nice personality, but my brother would kill him if he ever found out I agreed to go to lunch with him.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, the night of Justin in my apartment rekindled. His arrogance was beyond frustrating but the thought of it still made me nervous.

He hadn't stayed for more than three hours in my apartment and he had already made a huge dent in it. Now that I actually think about it, I hadn't seen Justin at all the past few days. It made me wonder what he actually did during the day while I was working.

Beauty Corporations was hectic as soon as I entered the floor. People were running with distressed looks on their face and I slowly walked to my office, trying hard not to get in the way and to dodge anyone who passed by.

Arlene was typing furiously and biting her lip when I walked up to her desk. She did a double take and gaped like a fish before picking up a large pile of folders.

"You're here. I was worried you weren't going to show up!" Arlene easily maneuvered the folders into my arms where I had a harder time holding them.

"Why wouldn't I show up?" Arlene looked at me incredulously. Maybe she had assumed I chickened out considering I met Grey and was up to my knees yesterday in work. I wouldn't blame her but I sure was going to prove them wrong if they thought I would give up so easily.

"Well, you met Grey and Arden," Arlene trailed off. I gave her a confused look but it clicked when she pointed to the girl I ran into the other day. I sighed, shaking my head and focusing back on everyone around me.

"What's going on? Why is everyone freaking out?" I hurriedly walked into my office and placed the folders on the desk, skimming through the top one. Arlene followed behind me with a notepad in her hand.

"They pushed up the deadline for this month's issue. We usually publish it on the third Saturday of every month, tomorrow, but they wanted it today for some reason."
