It was close to moonrise and Vera was watching one of the flock's new dragons, a gronckle flying in the sky from on the stable's landing platform when the riders returned from their very long mission. Vera quickly noticed that Snotlout was upset as he seemed to be... holding back tears as he got off Hookfang and walked away.
Vera: ( to the rest of the riders: ) Okay, who died?
Hiccup: No one. It just has been a long day.
Vera: Uh-huh.
Hiccup: So, uh, Vera, what have you and your flock been doing while we were gone?
Vera: Just giving the new flock members their official first day of being apart of the flock. ( As she noticed that the gronckle is flying towards them: ) And one of the newbies is about to test out their " Welcome to the family" gift.
Before any of the riders could say or ask anything in response, the gronckle lands on the platform and the riders' eye widened when they saw the boulder class dragon was wearing a prosthetic leg where it's right back leg was supposed to be, the prosthetic leg was attached to a blue leather saddle to match the gronckle's blue scales.
Vera: ( to the dragon with a smile as she pets the head of the overjoyed gronckle: ) There we go. See, chica, I told that ten times the charm.
Tuffnut: I thought it was " three times the charm. "
Vera gave Tuffnut a side glare and snapped her fingers twice, causing Moose to run out of the stables and push Tuffnut off the landing platform, but luckily for Tuffnut, Estrella was there and she caught him before he could hit the ground.
Tuffnut: ( with a smile as Estrella placed him back on the landing platform: ) That was awesome and scary, do it again.
Hiccup: Yeah, no.
Fishlegs: ( to Vera while looking at the gronckle's prosthetic leg: ) Did you make this for it?
Vera: ( calmly: ) Her, not it. Zafiro here is a beautiful female gronckle, so show her respect. But, yes, I did make that prosthetic leg for her, just like the one I made for Estrella, and the other dragons that lost their limbs because of something that happened to them. ( To Zafiro the gronckle, encouragingly: ) How about you go show off your new leg to the rest of the flock, girl? Go on!
Zafiro quickly flew off in the direction of Vera and the flock's side of island. As they watched, Estrella went up to Vera and gently nudged her when the thief and three legged night fury saw that Snotlout was still moping in the clubhouse in the corner of their eyes, and Vera couldn't help but feel bad for the rider, so decided to throw the Dragon riders a bone.
Vera: ( to the other riders: ) Hey, uh... ( Sighs ) After you guys are done settling back in from your mission, grab Mister Moping and come by to my side, I'm making dinner tonight.
This surprised the dragon riders due to how Vera has been somewhat distant towards them since they met her.
Hiccup: Really?
Vera: Yeah. ( As she gets on Estrella: ) Don't make me change my mind.
Vera and Estrella then took off to follow after Zafiro, leaving the riders surprised still.
Tuffnut: Looks like we're slowly growing on her...
Ruffnut: Or she's just trying to get Snotlout to stop moping.
Tuffnut: It's still something.
