Kai drove us back home in silence. He gripped the steering wheel tightly which told me he was still pissed. We got home a lot quicker because he drove above the speed limit.
"I've got it. Go on inside," Kai said when I offered to help take the groceries upstairs.
"There's a lot of..." I trailed off when Kai shot me a look that told me he was not in the mood to argue.
I nodded and dragged my feet to the lift. Kai didn't follow me and I supposed he was done with me for the day.
Why is he so pissed? Is it because I didn't thank him? How could I when he was so angry? I can read a room and Kai clearly doesn't want to talk.
I had no idea why Kai was so mad. I understood that Shawn the prick pissed him off but I was his target, not Kai. As much as I was grateful to Kai for getting rid of him, I didn't expect him to take it so personally. After all, I was no one to Kai.
I shook away my thoughts before I gave myself a headache and went straight to my flat. I needed a hot shower and a cup of tea after the day I had.
With my hair still damp and my jammies on, I cooked dinner. I opted for a sun-dried tomato orzo with grilled garlic chicken. I enjoyed cooking especially when I needed to clear my mind.
I made enough for three people and convinced myself to share it with Kai. I hadn't heard from him since we got back and after what he did for me, the least I could've done was share my food.
I packed the food nicely and made a mental note to bring back the Tupperware from the previous day or I was going to be left with nothing.
I stood outside his door for a solid five minutes with my heart in my mouth. I hated how awkward I was sometimes. I convinced myself it was just Kai, the same person whose home I barged into using a spare key.
I lifted my hand and was about to press the button but another hand beat me to it. Instead of pressing the doorbell, the larger hand unlocked the door. I retracted my hand immediately and looked over my shoulder.
Kai glanced at me with a questioning look in his eyes. I licked my dry lips and gulped as I stared into his curious hazel eyes.
"How long have you been there?"
"Long enough to see you lagging outside my front door." Kai pushed open the door. "If this isn't some kind of weird ritual to torture me in my dreams, you may enter."
"What are you..." I didn't bother arguing, squared my shoulders, and lifted the Tupperware with food. "I brought food."
Kai gestured for me to enter first before he followed behind.
"More leftovers?"
I placed the food on the kitchen counter and shook my head. "I prepared this freshly."
Kai combed his hair back with his fingers before he went to grab a bottle of water from the fridge. "You didn't have to but thanks. You can leave it here, I'll eat after I take a shower."
Kai gulped down the water and by his sweaty appearance and chosen attire, I could tell he just got back from working out.
"You can see yourself out, yeah?"
Before I was able to get a single word out, Kai walked off and headed upstairs. He barely acknowledged my presence and I felt somewhat offended.
Stop overthinking, Clover. This is what you asked of him.
I packed enough food for the two of us but got the hint so I decided to offload the food into one of Kai's crockeries and take back my Tupperware. While looking around, I noticed that he didn't even unpack his groceries.
