I had somehow ended up on the floor in Chris' room, sorting through books while he watched. Somewhere within the hours I had been sorting, Chris had fallen asleep on his bed. Chris' Mom had left before I met her. I set the last book, The Mortal Instruments:City of Bones on the AMAZING pile and stood up, stretching my arms way above my head. I looked over at Chris and saw that he was spread eagle on the navy blue bed spread. I stifled a giggle and reached for my little notebook.

Didn't want to wake you. Went back home. Text me when you wake up. :P

I tore the little piece of paper out of the notebook and set it on his bedside table. I then carefully tip-toed out into the hallway and downstairs. I went into the kitchen and grabbed my satchel bag. I turned toward the door into the hall and I was faced with a broad chest. I gasped and looked up to see a complete stranger looking down at me with harsh eyes.

"Who are you?" He demanded. I glanced around. Could this man be Chris' dad? I stepped back from the man and he reached out, grabbing my arm. I tried to pull away, but the man's grip was strong. I started to panic. The man suddenly hauled me up onto his shoulder and I started to move, punching and kicking as furiously as I could. But to no prevail.

"Quit moving." The man snarled. Suddenly, something hard hit the side of my head hard enough to knock me out. Everything went dark and I slipped into the world of the unconscious.

A fast wind was battering my hair around me. I didn't want to open my eyes. My whole being hurt worse than if I were to cut open my legs and arms. I slowly, carefully, worked my eyes open and what I saw made my heart stop. We were on top of a really tall building. There were two other men with me. One of them was the one who had taken me from Chris' house earlier and the other was not anyone I recognized. I looked around and realized that we were on the roof of a building. Not just any building. The Empire State building roof. I gasped as I saw that we were up so far. The pedestrians seemed like little ants.

"So I see that you've awoken. Good." One of the men snarled. I snapped my head around to look at him and saw that he was striding toward me. I winced and closed my eyes as he bent down in front of me.

"My colleague here informs me that you do not speak. Is that true?" He asked in a gentle voice. I suddenly realized that I wasn't tied up. There were no bindings on my wrists or my legs. I was completely free. I looked at the man in confusion.

"Ah. I see. So he was telling the truth. Alright, I can tell that you are confused about not being tied up. I prefer not to bother with the ropes. It's quite redundant, you see. There's no place for you to run. I have sealed off the door so that you cannot escape. I just find this easier. No need to worry about our little captive suffering from rope burn." The man's voice had suddenly turned sadistic. I curled my knees up to my chest and covered my face. This couldn't be happening... Had I just been kidnapped? I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to think about this. I must've fallen asleep. This had to be a dream. I tried to imagine that I was in a big, empty field. I looked up and I saw that I was still on the roof. I whimpered as I saw that the man was still crouched in front of me.

"Alright. What I want is simple. I need you to tell me the location of Chase Roberts." My heart instantly began to race. Chase? Had he been telling Chris the truth?! I frowned and shook my head. I had no idea where Chase was. Why would I know? Suddenly, the man reached out and grabbed my arm roughly. He yanked me to my feet and I gasped. He dragged me over to the edge of the roof and I grabbed onto the collar of his shirt, trying to keep myself balanced.

"Do you know now?" He snarled. I whimpered again and shook my head furiously. Would he really push me? I looked at him fearfully as tears sprung to my eyes. This wasn't how I was going to go out... I couldn't die here. I began sobbing, trying to keep my feet away from the edge. the man shook me angrily and I screamed slightly.

"Tell me where Chase is!" He yelled angrily. I bit my lip as I realized that my feet were dangling over the New York street hundreds of feet below me. I was trembling in fear. Finally, I mustered the words that needed to come from me.

"I-I don't know!" I exclaimed in fear. They were my first words since 6th grade. The man laughed harshly.

"Looks like our little kitten has found her voice. Now, quit lying and tell me where he is. If you do, I promise I will get you back to your dear Chris. Now-" Suddenly, the man's sentence was cut off by something hitting him in the side of his head. My stomach dropped as I felt a lurch and I began to fall. I screamed as I plummeted toward the street down below. My arms spun around as air rushed past me. The roof of the Empire State Building began to get farther away. I really was going to die. I turned my eyes from the roof and instead to the beautiful bright blue sky. There was not a cloud in the sky. It was beautiful. I wanted it to be the last thing I saw before-

Suddenly, something hit me hard and I gasped as arms seized me. I squeezed my eyes shut as the wind changed directions, instead pulling my hair to the side. I carefully opened my eyes and realized that I was in the arms of Chase. His eyes were focused on something in the distance. I turned my head and I gasped as I saw that we were zooming in between the buildings of New York. How had Chase shown up and saved me? And how was he flying?! I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face against his chest. I felt so much confusion and fear that I couldn't help the sobs that were escaping my lips. There was a small jolt and the winds died down.

"Isabelle." I heard Chase say my name in such a sad and heart-wrenching way that I looked up. My tears obscured my vision and made his face blurry but I knew that he was looking down at me. He gently set me down on my feet and I wiped away my tears. Suddenly, everything became extremely clear. Chase was frowning down at me. And he had... Black wings sprouting from his back. I gasped and stumbled back but then I stopped. He'd saved me. I suddenly surged forward and hugged him tightly. My hands pressed against the part of his back right below where his wings were. I didn't stop hugging him until Chase gently pushed me away.

"Chris is worried about you. He's taking care of the demons that kidnapped you and I'm supposed to take you back to your house." He told me firmly. I looked up at him in total confusion. My new-found voice quickly bubbled out.

"What are you?" I asked. My voice sounded hoarse and sickly. Chase looked surprised and confused at the same time.

"I... I'm an angel. What else would I be?" He replied. I winced and looked down. If Chase was an angel, then why were his wings black? Weren't they supposed to be white? I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"Let's go." I looked back up and saw that Chase's wings had vanished. I furrowed my brows. Chase turned away.

"It's a cloaking magic. Stops mortals from seeing my wings. You only saw them a minute ago because I wanted you to. Now, hurry up before I leave you here." I glanced around and realized that we were in the middle of a landing pad. I turned and saw that Chase was already almost gone. I quickly ran after him and caught up after a minute. We walked down a small flight of stairs and we reached a door. Chase started to reach for the doorknob but he paused. I looked up at him curiously and saw that he was watching me.

"Let me try something." He said, suddenly turning to me and wrapping an arm around my lower back. I gasped as he leaned down toward me. I swallowed hard as he came really close and held his lips only inches away from mine. I stared up into his dark eyes. I was frozen as he stared down at me. Then, he bent carefully toward me and pressed his soft lips to mine. At first, our lips were only touching and then his lips became more forceful and I gently placed my hand on the back of his neck and kissed him back. He gently pressed me against the door off the helipad and he ran his tongue over my bottom lip. I kissed him back more passionately. Chase pulled his lips from mine and I felt a sudden rush of horror.

"I'm sorry. I-I don't know what came across me." I whispered. Chase smirked down at me, his dark hair falling over his eyes and hiding them from me.

"That's quite alright. Don't underestimate the allure of darkness. Even the purest hearts are drawn to it. Now, how about we get out of here?" He suggested. I nodded carefully and he pulled his arm out from behind me. I was in a daze as I stepped away from the door, letting him lead me into the darkness of a staircase.
