Chase was sitting in the window seat, staring outside thoughtfully.

"Isabelle, you've got a lot more to you than meets the eye." He said. I frowned and sat down on my bed.

"I'm not sure if I should thank you or be offended." I replied quietly. Chase chuckled and stood up from the window seat.

"Neither am I." He told me. Chase neared the bed and he sat down beside me, laying back on the bedspread heavily. I turned my head to look at him.

"You're one strange person, you know that?" I muttered. He grinned at me.

"Well, to you I'm strange. Honestly, for a Zarthian, I am a perfectly normal criminal." He teased. I smiled and hit his leg.

"Shut up. What I mean is that when you aren't acting all tough and evil, you really are quite the character." I replied. Chase sat up and grinned.

"Oh yes, because I put so much effort into acting all tough and evil." He told me sarcastically. I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever." I replied as I stood up, walking toward my door. I pulled it open and I was horrified to see Emily tumble in. She scrambled to her feet and looked at me with wide eyes.

"What in God's name is a Zarthian?" She demanded. I looked at Chase and I saw that he had a completely cool expression. Silence fell for a moment and then Chase spoke.

"Well, you might as well tell her Isabelle." He told me. I opened my mouth to say something but I had no idea what to say. Was I just supposed to tell Emily about the Zarthians and all about how they looked like angels?

"Fine. I'l tell her. Emily, dear. You're sister and I are deep in the LARPing scene. We are a race called Zarthians." He told her. My eyes widened and I stared at Chase. LARPing? He couldn't be serious. Suddenly, Emily began to laugh. It started as a small chuckled and then it developed into a loud, bubbling laughter that made her double-over. I was frozen as I watched her. She laughed for a couple minutes and then she up righted herself, still gasping.

"Oh, Isabelle! I knew you were a weirdo, but this is a whole new level of strange!" She exclaimed. I threw Chase a scathing glare and he shrugged.

"Yeah. Whatever. I'm a nerd. Now could you please get out of my room?" I snapped. Emily left, still chortling. I shut the door and turned on Chase.

"Really? That was the best you could come up with?" I demanded in a low hiss. Chase chuckled and stood up, walking toward me.

"Yeah. That's what me and Chris have to tell people all the time." He replied. Suddenly, he came really close and I took a few steps back as he kept advancing. But my back eventually bumped against the wall and Chase put his hands on each side of me, trapping me there against the wall. I looked up at him in confusion in panic. My heart was racing wildly.

"I... Um... You..." I stuttered. Chase smirked as he leaned down towards me, his breath tickling my lips. I blinked a few times, trying to make sense out of the confusion that was in my brain. Chase smiled.

"So what happened on the helipad... Would you want it to happen again?" He asked in a sultry tone. I swallowed hard and I kept my eyes on his. Did I? Did I really want Chase to kiss me again? Slowly, my head began to bob up in down. Chase smiled down at me and then he took a deep breath.

"I could make that work." He mumbled before gently pressing his lips to mine. I instantly melted, putting my hands on his shoulders and letting my eyes slide closed. I let myself fall into the kiss. Chase was passionate. He grabbed my leg and lifted it to where it was around his waist. I gasped against his lips as he pushed me against the wall, lifting my other leg to go around him. We continued kissing for a long time but eventually I pulled away... Like an idiot. I looked down at Chase.

"Won't Chris hate us for this?" I asked breathlessly. Chase smirked.

"Who cares? My brother already hates me." He teased. He moved forward for another kiss but I pulled away.

"No, seriously. I don't want anyone to hate me. Especially Chris." I told him. Chase immediately became the cool, icy guy I had met at first. He stepped away and I released my legs from around him.

"So he's the only thing you can think about right now? My brother?" He asked in an angry tone. I bit my lip.

"No, Chase. I'm only thinking about what could come of a relationship between us." I replied carefully. Chase scowled and turned away.

"Alright. I'm not really in the mood anymore." He snapped, walking over to my window seat. My heart gave a lurch as he sat down heavily. It was heart-wrenching to see the look of anger in his eyes. It was my fault. I was the reason why Chase was upset. I bit my lip to prevent myself from crying. I carefully went to my bed and sat on the edge, grabbing my cell phone. I opened my texts and I went to Chris' messages.

Are you still near the building?

My phone vibrated within seconds with an answer.

Yeah

I quickly typed out that I wanted him back here.

Why? Did Chase do something to you?

I bit my lip and hesitated.

No. I'd just feel more comfortable with you here.

I sent the message and I laid back on my pillows.

"So were you talking to Chris?" Chase asked in a dull, flat voice. I frowned.

"Yeah. He says that he's coming back." I replied. I rolled over and pulled the white feather comforter over my head. This would be easier if I could just learn how to talk to people. I felt something press against my back and I realized that there was a sudden weight on the other side of the bed. I turned my head and I saw that Chase was laying there, his back against mine.

"My brother will only make it more difficult. Yes, he would hate it that we were together. He would probably go insane knowing that I kissed the girl he has already claimed to be his future wife..." Chase trailed off as I turned. He did the same. Our faces were about a foot away from each other.

"He's really claimed me as his future wife?" I asked in astonishment. Chase laughed and nodded. I laughed in response. After a minute Chase was just staring into my eyes.

"I'm sorry, Belle. I really am." He whispered. Belle... I really liked that nickname. I smiled fondly.

"No, I was being an idiot." I replied. Chase reached forward and wrapped an arm around my waist. I smiled as he pulled me close, burying my head against his chest.

"Never say that you're an idiot. You're very smart." He breathed. I could feel the rise and fall of his chest and I could hear the sound of his slow heartbeat. I closed my eyes and curled in to lay beside Chase, my head on his shoulder. I sighed contentedly and I felt sleep tugging at me, trying to pull me under its dark waves. I looked up into Chase's dark, sad eyes and then I closed mine. Sleep instantly took me over and I drifted into the darkness of a dreamless sleep.
