Hudson

I found myself standing outside our apartment. I had planned this evening meticulously, hoping to repair the rift between us and to convey my feelings in a meaningful way.

I brought a special dinner and wanted to share an intimate night at the apartment, just the two of us. I arrived home, her eyes widening in surprise as she took in the sight of me standing there, looking both nervous and determined.

She wore a simple yet elegant sun dress, her hair cascading in soft waves over her shoulders. The sight of her took my breath away, and I felt a surge of possession. Katie smiled warmly, though a hint of curiosity lingered in her eyes, "Hudson, what's all this?"

I smiled. "I thought I'd bring you these. I know things have been a bit rocky between us, and I wanted to do something special to show how much you mean to me." Katie takes the flowers with a soft smile. "They're beautiful. Thank you."

We settled on the couch, a comfortable silence enveloping us as we sipped on glasses of wine. I could sense the tension in the air, a residual effect of our recent disagreements. I set my wine down. "I've been thinking a lot about us and what happened. I realize I've been overly possessive, and that's not fair to you. I just—"

She interrupts, "I know, Hudson. And I appreciate you. But I need you to understand that I need space sometimes. I'm not asking for much, just a chance to make my own decisions without feeling pressured."

I nod. "I understand that. You know I do it because I care about you, right?"

"I appreciate that. I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately." She confesses.
The conversation flowed more naturally as the evening progressed. We shared stories and laughed, the earlier tension slowly dissolving. As the night deepened, I felt a growing sense of intimacy between us, a connection that went beyond words.

"Katie, there's something I need to tell you. I've been holding back because I didn't want to push you, but I need you to know how much you mean to me." Katie looks at me, her eyes reflecting the warmth of the candlelight. "What do you want to say?" She looked to the side, uncomfortably.

I take the ring from my pocket out, and I kneel down before her. Her eyes widen from shock as she realizes in what I'm doing. "I care about you more than I've ever cared about anyone. Ever. I want to be with you, not just as your boyfriend but in a painfully deeper way. I know I've made mistakes, but I want to make things right again." I smile.

Katie's gaze softened, and she took a deep breath. She could see the sincerity in my eyes, and it was clear that I was speaking from the heart. "Will you be my wife?" I said as her eyes widened in shock. The air between us crackled with unspoken desire. "What?" She giggled. My smile fades. "You heard me. I want you to marry me." I repeat. "Be my wife."

All I want is my woman to share my last name. Katie Rhodes. To spend my life with her. I have never felt this way before—never imagined I ever would-and it kills me I almost ruined the only relationship in my life that has ever mattered to me.

I reach across and grab one of her hands, pulling them apart. "I have to tell you, Katie. After Maggie died, I honestly couldn't imagine ever falling for anyone else ever again. And then I met you, and... I just knew right away." I squeeze her hand. Her eyes fill with tears. "But..." She whispers. My brow creases. "But what?"

"Hudson, I need to really think about this. I'm not sure either of us are ready for that kind of commitment especially after what's happened." She expresses. The fury inside me was evident. I struggled to control it. It felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest.

"You aren't ready for that kind of commitment?" I asked, my voice a low, dangerous growl. She nodded, her eyes wide with apprehension. "I'm still so young. I'm not ready to be a wife."
