Leila sat in the grass under the shade of an old oak tree just out of sight of her mother. She looked around at how beautiful this park was with all the trees. She lay down breathing in the fresh air, admiring how the sunlight danced through the leaves of the tree. She thought of how epic it would be to be a demigod. She thought of who here godly parent might be. She woke up when a leaf fell in her face. She swatted it away and sat up. She looked at the tree pondering whether to climb it or not. Leila grinned and jumped up with her book in her hand.

She climbed until she found a suitable branch, then sat down staring at the cover of the book. This book had got her through a lot. It had got her through her dad joining the marines. It had got her through losing her sister to cancer. It had got her through losing her dad to war. This book was more than a book to Leila. It was her medicine, her escape from what was real into what was fantasy, her dream world that she could run to when she needed. And the characters weren't just characters. They were her role models, her best friends, people she could learn from, people she could aspire to be. This was not just a book to Leila. It was her life.

Leila took her phone out of her back pocket and took a picture of her book, The Mark of Athena, to post to her account. The caption was "Taking a break from reality and slipping into my dream world". As soon as she posted it she got fifty likes and twenty comments, but she didn't look to see what they were. She logged out and started reading. She had only read a few lines when she saw a flash of red above her out of the corner of her eye. Leila looked up from her book to see a upside down face in front of her.

She stifled a scream as she looked at the creature.

"Ella...?" she asked in disbelief. This creature looked just like Ella the harpy from The Heroes of Olympus. But how was that possible? As much as she wanted it to be real, it was only a book.

"Girl knows Ella's name. Girl can see through the Mist," the harpy said looking unsurprised. Leila fell out of the tree flat on her face. Ella flew over to her but Leila scrambled away.

"How are you real? What's going on?" she demanded. "Are you just going to sit there staring at me or-" she cut herself off when she looked up and did a double take.

"Oh my gods," she whispered. The Argo II was flying over her head and it was flying low as if it was about to land.

"What-? How-? Huh?" was all Leila could manage as the ship sailed out of sight over her head. She must've been going crazy. Maybe all her mom's insults were finally catching up to her.

"Ella will show you. Ella will bring you to her friends,".

Ella cawed at such a high pitch it could've broken crystal. A few seconds later, a figure Leila recognized as Mrs. O'Leary the hellhound came bounding toward them. The dog lay down so she could get on. Leila hesitated and Ella said, "Ella will bring you to her friends. You will be a great addition." Leila looked back in the direction of her mom. In some odd way she felt like she might miss her. Might.

Leila grinned like the devil at Ella and hopped on Mrs. O'Leary.

"To Camp Jupiter, I presume?" she said to the harpy and Mrs. O'Leary went bounding off with Ella zooming by her side.
