Everyone sat in stunned silence. I had just been claimed by Gaea, the evil Titan mother who was trying to destroy the world. What does that make me, then? This can't be happening, I'm not even special. Just some random girl from San Francisco with an ordinary (somewhat aggressive) mother and an ordinary life. But now I'm sitting at a table full of demigods in the Argo II with Annabeth Chase telling me that my real mother is Gaea... I didn't know what to say.

"Leila?" Annabeth said softly.  I jumped a bit, unaware of how long we'd been sitting in silence.

"Y-yeah?" I asked quietly, not making eye contact with anyone.

"I don't really know what this means, but don't jump to any conclusions okay?" she replied. I nodded my head and gathered the courage to look around at the other six demigods who were watching me intently. I looked down at my lap and sighed, suddenly interested in the peeling blue nail polish on my finger nails.

"I'm really sorry about this guys," I said without looking up at them, being too ashamed by the burden that I felt I was going to be.

"It's okay-" Hazel started, but she was cut off by her boyfriend.

"It's not okay, what if she's dangerous? I mean isn't Gaea the person who we're trying to get away from? We shouldn't really be traveling with someone associated with her," Frank said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Frank!" Hazel slapped him on the shoulder, "Just because something relating to Gaea occurred to her, doesn't mean that she is dangerous. I mean, we've all had certain experiences with the earth goddess, what makes her's any different?"

Percy leaned forward onto the table, "I see where you're coming from, Hazel, but was it just me, or did that look a heck of a lot like a claiming?"

"Hey, hey, hey, let's listen to Annabeth and not jump to conclusions. I for one don't think Leila's dangerous," Leo stated with pointed glances at Frank and Percy, then a small smile at me which I greatly appreciated.

"I don't think your opinion amounts to much right now considering you just fired at our camp," Frank retorted angrily.

Leo completely deflated, the small amount of acceptance he had felt shriveled to nothing. He looked down at his hands and slumped down a bit. I was immediately furious with Frank, but before I could say anything, Annabeth stood up abruptly and immediately regained control of the conversation.

"Don't get mad at Leo! That's not what we're talking about right now and we've already established that it wasn't his fault," She sat back down and sighed, "Leila, ignore them, they just don't understand-"

"Like you do?" Frank questioned her and Percy took a sharp intake of breath. I gasped, no one ever  talked to Annabeth like that. She looked over at Frank, eyebrows raised.

"Do you know who you're talking to? My mother is Athena, goddess of wisdom. I think I know more than some son of Mars," she spat glaring daggers at Frank

"Are you suggesting that I'm stupid because my father is the god of war? You may be the child of Athena, but that doesn't make you better than the rest of us. You don't know anymore about this girl than we do! For all you know she could be a minion of Gaea's sent here to kill us,".

"I cannot-" Annabeth started, but I just couldn't bear to hear everyone arguing.

"Stop it!" I yelled at them placing my hands on the table and standing up quickly, "Just stop it, both of you! It's not my fault that this happened! Just this morning, I was a normal girl living a normal life in San Francisco and now I've been claimed by Gaea, put in a flying ship, and now I'm surrounded by a bunch of bickering demigods! I- I must be losing my mind or something," I finished, breathing heavily and putting my head in my hands. Both Annabeth and Frank looked down, ashamed.

"I'm really sorry, Leila," Frank said.

"Yeah, me too. And you too, Frank, I'm sorry," Annabeth said reluctantly.

Frank looked at Annabeth, surprised, "It's alright, I'm sorry too," he smiled awkwardly. After a few moments of awkward silence, Percy finally piped up.

"Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm starving,".
