Percy walked at the head of the group with Reyna. He could feel Leila's eyes on him. Her eyes, they made Percy's stomach do flips. He knew she had to be mortal, but there was something different about her. When he first saw her, he mistook her for a goddess. She had that air of sophistication that made you feel like she was to be respected, but was still very dangerous.
"Leila..." Percy said to Reyna, "Is she-"
"Mortal? Yes," Reyna said, cutting him off.
"So how could she-" he started again, annoyed.
"Have powers? I don't know" she finished looking grim.
"Do you-" he tried again.
"Trust her? Not in the slightest," she said with a sense of finality. She walked faster ahead of the group. Apparently someone is feeling out matched, Percy thought to himself. He fell back and walked with Hazel and Frank.
"You guys," he said putting his arms around their shoulders, "are going to love my friends". He couldn't wait to see everyone on board. He wasn't sure who was coming. If Annabeth wasn't there though, they'd be making a mandatory stop at his old camp. He saw Reyna go forward to greet the guests so he figured since he was co-Praetor he should join her.
He went to stand next to her, and then... oh gods. Annabeth. He was vaguely aware of Reyna talking but he couldn't think straight. Not with Annabeth right there. She was even more beautiful than he remembered. And he still couldn't read her emotions. She looked like she wanted to slap him, or kiss him, he couldn't really tell. Finally he couldn't take it anymore. He and Annabeth rushed toward each other at the same time. He threw his arms around her and they kissed. He couldn't believe this was real. Annabeth had been the only person he remembered when he lost his memory. Now that she was actually here... it was surreal.
He drew back from her and looked at her for a moment. Gods she was beautiful. He was about to say something super romantic about missing her but then she judo flipped him and pinned him to the ground. He could understand her being mad but, jeesh, she was embarrassing him in front of the entire legion.
"I swear Seaweed Brain if you ever-" he cut her off by laughing. He just couldn't help it. This was the happiest he'd been since he'd lost his memory. Annabeth helped him to his feet. He wanted to kiss her again so badly, but he figured one was all the legion could take.
A blonde hair guy, Jason, cleared his throat awkwardly, "So, yeah... good to be back,". He introduced Piper first. She must be Aphrodite, Percy thought. She was beautiful, but not his type. He liked smart, blonde girls with grey eyes. Next was the guy who was Hazel's old boyfriend, except his name was Leo Valdez. He glanced over at Leila and when she saw Leo her eyes widened and she looked like she was about to faint of excitement. Who was this guy?
Finally he introduced Annabeth, "Sorry, she doesn't usually judo flip people and pin them to the ground,".
Reyna looked Annabeth up and down, "You're sure you're not a Roman? Maybe an Amazon?" Annabeth looked puzzled at that comment, but Percy could totally see her as an Amazon. Well, except for the part about them chaining up men and using them as slaves.
"Well," Percy said, "for those of you who don't know, I'm Percy. This is Frank," he said gesturing to him, "and Hazel," he said looking over at her. He really wished she'd stop staring at Leo like that. She must've been freaking the kid out. "And this," he said, looking back at Leila who was still in the crowd, "is Leila," he continued, grabbing her arm and pulling her forward. "She'll be our guide on this quest,".
"Hi," she squeaked. Percy wished she'd said something a little more impressive. It was embarrassing introducing her as their guide. But hey, never argue with a prophecy. Everyone looked at her wondering why she might be the guide. Except Leo, he looked at her like she was a pegasus. Seriously, he looked ready to drool.
"Well," Percy said, breaking the awkward silence, "I think the legion can stand down,".
"I agree," Reyna replied, "Octavian, go tell the wind spirits to prepare a welcome feast,"
Octavian looked infuriated, "You are not telling me you are going to let these Greeks into camp!"
"No," Percy agreed, "we will eat here. Now go, you wouldn't go against the orders of your Praetor, now would you?" he said putting venom behind his words. Octavian glared at him and stalked off to the kitchen. Percy could tell Reyna was trying hard not to smile.
"Don't worry about Octavian," Percy said to Annabeth, "he's just full of it,".
"Yea," Hazel chimed in, "you'll love it here," she said doing her best to sound cheerful, but Percy could hear the worry behind her voice. Percy grabbed Annabeth's hand and they started talking about the past 8 months.
