a/n I'm going to do this chapter from first person and see how it goes. I might switch back to third person later but for now I'm going to be writing in first person.
...............................................................................................................Oh. My. Gods. This is not happening. I'm in Camp Jupiter eating dinner with The Seven. Yep, that's it, I'm having a nervous breakdown and this is all a dream or something. A really realistic dream. I was sitting in between Percy and Hazel and Leo was right across from me. I must've been staring at him because he snapped his fingers in front of my face.
"Hey, I know I'm unbelievably hot," Piper sighed and shook her head, "but I'm trying to enjoy my taco,". I felt my face burn and I looked down.
"Sorry," I mumbled, "This is all just a little hard to take in,".
"Yeah," Jason said from the end of the table,"All this Greek mythology is hard to believe since its supposed to be, well, a myth,".
"No it's not that. I've believed in the Greek gods for years... ever since I read a book about them. And it wasn't a history book. It was..." I reached into my coat pocket but found it empty. A feeling of absolute terror spread through me. "No! Where'd it go? I had just a moment ago!" I started frantically looking under the table and under plates to see if the book was there.
"Calm down, Leila," Annabeth said, "Just try and explain this book to us." Everyone at the table looked up from their meals, even Leo. Gods I hate attention. Despised it actually.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you,".
"There's not much that we wouldn't believe. I mean, we are literally half god. There's a lot of freaky stuff that goes on in our lives," Percy said while drinking a blue soda.
Yeah, well nothing could prepare you for what I'm about to say, but if you insist...
"Promise you won't call me crazy?" she asked them all.
"We promise on the River Styx," Hazel replied for everyone, "You know what that is right?"
"Yeah, the River that the dead cross to get to the Underworld," I paused and took a deep breath. "There's this series of fictional books. They talk about the lives of modern Greek demigods. They were written by a guy named Rick Riordan. He wrote a second series of books also that talk about both Greek and Roman demigods," I hesitated looking to see if any of them thought I was crazy yet. Nope, they were taking it well so far. Leo seemed to have lost interest and was busy making a miniature assault rifle out of pipecleaners and ABC gum. Jason was glaring at a stapler that was on the table for some reason.
"That seems pretty normal. The mortal might have seen through the Mist but dismissed us as a figment of his imagination and decided to write a story," Annabeth said nonchalantly, "What are the stories called? I do a lot of reading so I may have heard of them,".
"Well, that's where it gets really freaky. You're all going to think I'm nuts. The first series is called... geez this is hard. It's called Percy Jackson and the Olympians," I finally blurted out hoping they wouldn't send me to a psych ward. That definitely got Leo's attention. He'd moved on to making an airplane and had snapped one of the wings off. Percabeth (yes I refer to them as one deal with it) looked especially stunned.
"Wait hold up," Percy said shaking his head, little bits of blue cake flying from his face, "You're saying there's a book about me? Nice!" he said which earned him an Anna-deathglare.
When Annabeth was finished with her glare of doom she looked at me so intensely I thought I might burst into flames, "What are these books about?" she said making every word clearly audible.
"Well..." I started, a little scared by her, "there's five books in each series. One book in the first series is about how Zeus thought Percy stole his lightning bolt, another one's about your adventure to get the Golden Fleece, but it's mainly about the Titan War. The second series is about how Jason and Percy lost their memories, switched camps, and how you have to defeat Gaea or the world will end," I finished awkwardly taking a sip of Dr. Pepper. I was about to say how I knew everything about them because I'd read the books so many times, but I figured that would sound really stalkerish. They all stared at me making me wish I was a turtle so I could hide in my shell. By that time most everyone had left so the area was eerily quiet.
"So you know all about us then? Tell us more about these books please," Piper said sweetly, but I wasn't fooled.
"That charmspeak won't work on me, Piper" I don't know how I was so sure, but I knew that I was immune to charmspeak. Piper looked absolutely stunned.
"H-how di-" Annabeth cut her off.
"We need to go back to Camp Half Blood and consult Chiron. He never mentioned any of this to me. He must've known this would happen. We'll leave first thing tomorrow morning."I was so confused. In the books, the Seven didn't go back to Camp Half Blood. As their guide, was I supposed to follow the books exactly or just make sure that's roughly how everything ends up? Actually, if we were supposed to follow it exactly, I wouldn't be here. Why am I here? Why is this all happening? I'd finally gotten over my fangirling and began to wonder what the actual Hades is going on? I'm not sure, but I bet that dam cow goddess is behind this. She always is. She should listen to Zeus for once and butt out.
Not that I'm not happy to be here. I'm elated, living every fangirl's dream, but I am definitely not demigod material. I'm just a regular mortal without dyslexia and ADHD. I'm sixteen and no monsters have ever come after me. I've never killed a spider let alone a monster.
And that line of the prophecy really bugs me. The guide has unknown powers she hides to be revealed to all when the time comes to arise. What the Hades was that supposed to mean? How could I have powers and not be a demigod? I think I'd know if I had powers. And I definitely don't. Although, some pretty weird stuff has happened now that I think about it.*Flashback*
"Get back here Singularis!" Genevieve yelled at me as I ran behind my school, Callida's School for Troubled Kids. Genevieve had been bullying me since second grade when she spilled apple juice and convinced everyone that I'd had an accident.
"There's no point in running you know! I will find you!" she bellowed form around the corner. I hopped the chain link fence that marked the edge of our campus and sprinted down the ally that separated our school from the prison reformatory next door. Yes, there's a prison next to our school.
As I sprinted down the ally, I turned a corner and found a bunch of dumpsters. I peeked back around the corner just in time to see Genevieve fall from the top of the fence. She cursed, but got up and began running my way. With no where else to go, I jumped into the dumpster silently praying that Genevieve hadn't seen me. I heard her reach the outside of my dumpster and held my breath, my heart beating so loud I was sure it would give me away. I guess it did.
Genevieve threw open the lid and growled, "I've got you now, Singularis". She grabbed a fist full of my hair and pulled me out of the trash with it, my scalp screaming from the pain. She shoved me down on the ground and snarled, "Maybe I should leave you there with the trash. At least you'll fit in there,". She started moving towards me and I scooted back on the ground until I felt my back hit the chain link fence. Genevieve punched me once, twice, three times in my face. I could feel the blood trickling from my forehead and nose. Genevieve drew back her arm for another round and I squeezed my eyes shut and wished that she would just disappear forever. After a few seconds of waiting I peeked with one eye to find that Genevieve was gone.
I stumbled to my feet and looked around. I heard something behind me and turned to find Ms. Callida, our principal and my English teacher, standing on the other side of the fence.
"M-Ms. Cal-Callida?" I stammered. If I wasn't in so much pain, I would've been very mad at the calm look on her face. I don't know how much she had seen, but I was bleeding a lot so she should have been worried about that at least.
"Leila, I am sorry to tell you, but you are expelled," Ms. Callida said calmly. "This takes affect immediately. You may go to your classroom and get your things."
I was furious. "Why are you expelling me? Genevieve was the one punching me!"
"Genevieve is missing. You are responsible," she replied simply. "You should be happy that I am not calling the police. You are no longer welcome here. However," she pulled out a brochure and handed it to me.
On top in Greek font it said Camp Half Blood. Ms. Callida knew that I loved the Percy Jackson books, since she was my English teacher.
"How could you play such a cruel joke on me!" I yelled at her.
"Because it is not a joke," she replied laughing as she walked away. I looked at the brochure and ripped it up. I threw it on the ground and slid down the fence. I pulled my knees up to my chest and started crying. I hated when I cried, but I had a pretty good reason.*End of flashback*
...............................................................................................................
a/n So what do you think Leila's so called powers are? Why is she guiding The Seven? Where'd Genevieve go? And hmm... doesn't the name Callida ring a bell? Let me know what you think the answers to these questions are in the comments.
I tried to make this chapter extra good and long since its been so long since I've updated. But writing that flashback was really fun. Let me know if you would like to know more of Leila's past and what you think of the overall story so far.
