A Love Sacrifice

As the fight pressed on, YN stood still for a moment, unsure why this was happening towards them. Then recalling another mishap that happened so many years ago, it was similar to what happened during high school.

"God damn it, Mirio," YN spoke up to Mirio, while walking home, "you ended up in another fight, again?"
"Can't help it! They were picking on poor Amajiki..." Mirio pouted, covered with bandages.
"I get it that you're standing up for your friend, but at times, you need to let him fight his own battles every now and then."
"You know, Amajiki: he's like a little kitten. We can't always see the claws out on his own unless by brute force."
"You sound just like that one girl. What was her name? Nejire?"
"Okay, okay!" he smiled, chuckling happily. "I get it!"

I smiled as well as we reached towards my home.

"I guess I'll... see you tomorrow, alright?" I said, while trying to get home.
"Wait!" Mirio replied, as I was about to open the door.
"What is it?"

He looked to the side, kind of embarrassed about the matter. For the first time, he's never been this nervous, even to his best friend.

"I..." he began, face flushed lightly, "I want to uh..."
"Hmm?"
"Well... to ask you. Hypothetically, what would be your ideal way to know if you're in love?"

Surprised by his question, I sighed, thinking carefully.

"Not quite sure about that answer, since it's different for some people. Me? I'm just the type that feels responsible to protect them no matter what. Even if the odds are against me."
"Really? That reason. Why?"

I looked at him with a smile.
"Isn't that what heroes are supposed to do? Protect the ones they truly care about?"

As Black Cat was getting hurt by Mirio's punches through Overhaul's body, his memories were slowly being recollected, but some of my brother's quirk were still in effect. My brother tried to think of a way to get him to keep Overhaul's mind still under his control but wasn't sure how. Just then, Cat noticed Nemento, who was caught during Overhaul's quirk activation, trapped under the gravel.

"Nemento!" Cat called out to him in Overhaul's voice, tossing the box right at his direction, "You know what you have to do!"

As he heard his master calling out to him, he grabbed the gun that remained in his hand and aimed at his target. Looking at the target he's looking for, he couldn't decide whether to fire at Mirio or not. If he were to miss, he might end up hitting Overhaul in the process.

"No matter what happens to me, YN, I won't let anything, or anyone hurt you. I'll take the fall for you."

Recollecting Mirio's proclamation, he looked at me and aimed the gun towards me. In a state of panic, I saw the gun aim towards me and was about to scream in fear. Mirio, who noticed this turn, couldn't decide what to do. If he were to focus on Overhaul, I will end up hit in the process again. And yet, if he goes to me, he'll lose his quirk for good. What could he do?

"Isn't that what heroes are supposed to do? Protect the ones they truly care about?"

Realizing what he has to do, he fled Overhaul and went in between me and the gun. Overhaul, who was trying to fight back from my brother's grasp, noticed this and was about to order Nemento to stop. However, as he was about to say it and Nemeto pulling the trigger from his grasp, I felt some sort of warmth close to my face. I looked up, only to see Mirio smiling his usual smile.

"Wait. What are you-"
"I made a promise, remember?" Mirio smiled, holding me close, hugging me tight. "I'll always protect you."

"DON'T DO IT!"

BANG! went the sound of the gunshot.

The gun reached its target, aiming at Mirio's back. And just at that moment, his permeation quirk slowly ceased to exist throughout his entire body, making him weak beneath his knees. Laughing hysterically, Black Cat started to laugh entirely over the victorious moment over ending a powerful quirk. He had accomplished the impossible while I stared in shock. Why on earth would he do this for me?

"How pathetic!" my brother spoke in Overhaul's voice. "You claim to want to protect her when you can't even protect yourself! What kind of hero are you now, with no powers to protect her?! How about we make this more interesting?!"

Using Overhaul's quirk, my brother made the walls and floor transform into spikes, shooting up all around me and our surroundings. Fearing for being hurt from Overhaul's strike, Mirio still continued to protect me with his body even with his quirk out of existence. I could hear my brother laughing hysterically and I knew: he was far gone. Both my love and my brother.

His world spiraled to the point he came across Nemento, now passed out from Overhaul's quirk. Thinking of getting more and more power, he gripped onto Nemento's quirk and on Overhaul's to transform into a monster that no one ever expected before.

"YES... YES!! With this power, I can become the ultimate monster! And no one to stop me!! Who's the best now!?"

Seeing how deadly he's become, I started to shake in fear and tried to get Mirio out of here. However, as soon as I touched his side, I felt something wet on the side. When I pulled it in front of me, it was blood. The spikes that went to protect me earlier must've struck him when escaping. My face went all shades of white, frozen in fear.

"YN... don't worry about me," Mirio spoke up, seeing how scared I was. "I'll be okay. Come on."
"YN..." my brother spoke up, using Nemento's quirk, "do you see now the consequences of your actions?? Why fight for it when you can come with me peacefully?"

I slowly began to move, but Mirio stopped me.

"No... don't." Mirio spoke weakly.

I couldn't make up my mind.
Mirio's hurt, because of me...

They're all putting their lives in danger, because of me...And I'm about to lose Kai... because of me.
