As Midoriya and I sat at the location Overhaul had given to them over the phone, Midoriya felt a bit uneasy. Without any pro heroes or police to back them up, it would just be Overhaul, him, and I alone, away from the city.
"Are you alright, Deku?" I asked.
"I don't feel right about this. Maybe we should've invited Bubble Girl or Cenitpeder to tag along."
"And lose trust on Kai? No. Besides, even if we did invite them, they wouldn't let us go at all. Trust him."
"Trust him? You barely know anything about him."
"And you do?"
He stood midsentence because it was the truth. Why should he criticize my knowing of him when he in turn doesn't know anything about Kai either? He had one interaction and he too couldn't understand him or his motivation.
"I understand you're scared for my sake, but this is something I must do."
"But what if... what if he hurts you?"
I held his hand gently and looked at him lightly.
"He won't."
He smiled lightly and stood up.
"Right. Then I say we need a contingency plan. In case things don't work out."
"In case of what exactly doesn't work out?" a voice echoed.
Midoriya and I backed away as he held me close.
I knew that voice.
It was him.
Kai.
My true love.
As he came out of the darkness, however, I felt something off about him.
It's as if: his entire personality was different than the first day I met him.
The fear shuddered in my spine as I held Midoriya's arm tight.
"Why have you come?" He asked coldly.
It seems like he wanted to get straight to the point immediately. Midoriya held me tightly as he glared at Overhaul.
"I'm here to talk about YN." Midoriya began, "You see..."
"Were you not aware?" Overhaul interrupted.
"Aware of what?"
"Of YN's passing."
"Oh. Well-"
From what Midoriya had explained to me earlier, news reporters had declared me dead when they were unable to find me in my beautiful hero form. What the public media doesn't realize is I'm very much alive, but very much in a different form.
"I'm aware of the media exaggerating from time to time, but-"
"Exaggerating? Informing the world their powerful hero dead is exaggerating."
"Oh okay... maybe that was the wrong thing to say-"
"Is that why you called me?! To remind me of that painful memory!?"
He placed his hands in the ground as his quirk started to make it shake beneath us. The entire ground changed from solid to liquid, making both Midoriya and I fall towards the ground in fear. As it started to get more tense between us, Chrono stepped in and placed his hand on Chisaki.
"Boss, remember why we're here."
The ground them stopped shaking as he placed his hand back towards his side.
"Forgive me. I didn't mean to startle the two of you completely. I hope you understand where all this is coming from."
"Oh. Of course." Deku chuckled nervously. "And he is?"
"My right-hand man, Chrono. He'll oversee this conversation play out."
Just then, he turned his head and looked straight towards me. I looked back at him, expecting the same warm and compassion eyes like before. Instead, there was something off about him. All I saw from him were dark, cold, dead eyes glaring deep into my very soul.
