9:01AMHarry had a knack for assigning Katherine to training teams that tested her limits and patience. First, he paired her with Smoke. Then came Bandit. Now, Harry had thrown her into the mix with Mute and Caveira— two operators who were notably cautious around her.
Each time, it felt like a deliberate challenge, pushing Katherine to navigate difficult dynamics and forge unexpected alliances. As she approached the table, she felt the weight of the woman's stern glare, sharp enough to cut through the air.
And the way Mark immediately tensed up, instinctively averting his gaze when they locked eyes.As she walked past the adjacent table occupied by Fuze, Sledge, and Hibana, Sledge offered her a friendly greeting and Hibana looked up from her conversation, giving her an encouraging smile and a subtle nod of acknowledgment.
Caveira was the leader of this group, consisting of herself, Mute, Rook, Siren, and Ela—though the latter hadn't arrived yet.
Katherine sat down next to Julian, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Kitty! Mon ami!" he greeted with a bright smile, throwing his arm around her shoulder.
She grinned and leaned in, appreciating his warm welcome."comment vas-tu, mon grand?" She grinned, still under his arm as he chuckled slightly tightening his grip as she jokingly tickled under his armpit to loosen his grip.
"Ready to kick some ass!" Rook declared loudly, he made sure the other table could hear as Buck and Jackal took their seats, both glancing over with raised eyebrows at the sudden burst of energy.
Yumiko burst out laughing while Seamus shook his head, a broad grin spreading across his face."Aye? We'll see about that," Seamus chuckled, his thick Scottish accent ringing through the room with a hearty laugh.
Taina huffed quietly, "Where's Bosak?" she muttered, causing Katherine to tense at the mention of her friend, already bracing herself for the inevitable lecture when Ela finally showed up.
The group endured another five minutes of anticipation before Ela made her entrance, her striking green bob brightening the room. Katherine's face lit up with a smile as she waved enthusiastically, prompting the rest of the table to turn their attention to the newcomer.
"I'm sorry," Ela muttered, sliding into the seat beside Katherine with a sullen expression.
"You know, we can't afford to waste time, especially not for someone who treats punctuality like it's optional. Get it together, Bosak," Taina said, her authoritative tone unwavering as she locked her gaze on the green-haired woman.
Ela remained silent, shuffling awkwardly and avoiding eye contact. Sensing her discomfort, Katherine discreetly gave a comforting pat on Ela's thigh.
She understood the struggle all too well, as sleep had been elusive for both of them lately.
