Erik laughed. "Bossy little thing, aren't you? You'll fit into our family just fine. Jasper is already shit scared of having pissed you off. Just let me be there when you pull him into line too."

"Oh, I haven't forgotten him, Erik, I won't show him who's boss though. I'm just going to teach that nosy little bastard to keep his nose where he belongs."

"Jack. You'll have to get control to join this conversation." He replied conversationally as Jack growled when my mother moved closer.

"No frail. Mate in danger."

I turned my face to him and used my sore arm to gently make him face me. I barely touched him with my fingertips but he complied eagerly. Before I could say anything though, he kissed me. Tenderly. Purring as he did so. "I like this kissing in frail body." He grinned predatorily when he lifted his face from mine.

I had enough. This animal side was doing things to my sanity. He had claimed me as his mate. I needed to speak to the human part of the man. Also, the big fluffy beast kissed me so tenderly and yet managed to do so incredibly passionately. I couldn't think with him beside me.

"Okay. I'm done with you. Get your big furry ass back into the background and let the frail side out. I'm unhappy with you."

He whined pathetically and tried to kiss me again. I put my hand in his face to stop him. "Not the time or place, fur-ball. I have business to attend to and you don't understand computer. The frail side understands these things."

He grabbed my hands gently and leaned in to kiss me. I could feel the changeover. He stopped moving his lips against me for a second, then he wrapped his hands around my head and back, unlocked our lips and hugged me with his face in my neck. "I'm glad you are awake, sweetheart and I apologise for my overbearing beast."

He pulled back to look at my face and I smirked. "The big furry bastard isn't that bad. He's super soft too, I like him. Now I need to get to work though."

Alpha Daniel interrupted and I was reminded that there were a lot more people in the room instead of just me and Jack. I blushed when I looked up. "Cloe. You were injured quite badly and David has had to fix your laptop. Thankfully only the screen broke when you fell on it."

"How's Harry?"

"He'll live. It was touch and go for a while, but they got the silver out on time. Two of the bullets that he took for you still hit you but, having gone through him, they didn't go so deep and that limited the damage."

Jack was tense beside me and I could only guess that he was upset that I was hurt. Daniel continued however. "The vampire was taken out by Mark and Jack just before you were shot. Then Jack slaughtered everyone who was down there to attack you, all on his pretty little lonesome."

"My beast went into a rage." Jack mumbled, he sounded ashamed of himself.

In the link my father explained that the animal had taken control and gone on a rampage. It had gone berserk the moment he saw me bleeding. Any of the enemy who had tried to flee through the tunnels had met a gruesome death at his claws most before they even made it down the steps. All that while he watched David and Mark stop the bleeding and the doc fix the worst of my injuries right there. Only my pack knew that I couldn't be transported before I was patched up because I wasn't a Lycan. He still didn't know.

Erik again broke the heavy tension. "It was actually pretty epic, little warrior, I've never seen a beast that effective. None of the other packs will ever think of attacking our pack now, this story will become legend." Everyone nodded their consent and I looked at Jack while he was looking down at his hands. I looked back at Erik and questioned him instead of Jack. "If it was so impressive then why does he look upset instead of proud?"

"He went berserk. That isn't something any of us can remember happening for centuries now. Stories of mates going berserk when their other is hurt are from centuries ago. From a time when the beast had full control over the human. That doesn't happen anymore, we learn how to be one with our beast from a young age. Little Jack here lost control and his beast pushed him out completely. There wasn't a single part of that tunnel that wasn't painted in blood and body parts. He's worried that you will be ashamed of him as a mate. The big furry bastard though, he wasn't so berserk that he didn't let your pack or the doc treat you. In stories of old, sometimes the mate they protected died because help couldn't go near the wounded mate either."

I turned my gaze to David. "Okay. Nice. Now, gimme my laptop and get on yours. We have work to do."

"Pay up, suckers!" My adoptive mother gloated. Then she winked at me as the men collectively sighed, explaining. "Your sister and I said you wouldn't crumble under hearing what Jack did and that you would wish to immediately return to your laptop. The men all thought you'd freak out the moment you heard about what lover boy there did for you." She stepped closer to the bed and Jack tensed, she reached forward and placed a bag on the bed. "Sustenance for both of you and cookies for when you are working. We all know that they won't be able to stop you from diving head first into this."

"Thanks mum." She cooed at my words and added. "The doc will be by in a little while, to check you out." In the link she added I should order Jack to go for a run when the doc was here because Jack and the other packs all still remained blissfully unaware that I was human. They thought that trauma had buried my wolf too deep to surface.

Other than David they all walked out and shut the door behind them. Jack hadn't moved. David winked at me and then informed us out loud. "I think I forgot our chargers. I'll have to get them from the support vehicle. Just give me fifteen minutes to get them."-
