Hello out there, I've put up an extra long chapter for you. Meanwhile, wish me strength (and a bit of luck)...I'm going for my next belt in Kyokushin (full contact karate, for those of you who aren't into martial arts) What are you doing this weekend?

I think everyone noticed that I was quieter after that episode. Jack was rubbing soft circles on my back and my pack link was buzzing from everyone. He was indeed acting like a newly mated male.
Just before we were going into the tunnels, I finally reached my limit with the teasing and stalked over to our Alpha. Rudely interrupting the quiet conversation he was having with Jack's Alpha, I grabbed Daniel's arm to plead my case. 'Make them stop, please, Uncle D! Otherwise, my brain will explode and then I'll be unable to help David and then the mission will fail and then we'll all die! They are driving me nuts in the link!'

Jack's chest rumbled at my back and he wrapped his arms around me again. 'I'm sorry. This is all my fault.'

I turned to glare at him. 'Yeah, it is! It totally is! And you say you're sorry, yet it's not stopping you, is it?' I growled back, much to the amusement of the other men. He put his mouth in my neck and mumbled against my skin just under my ear. 'I'm sorry, my Love. I can't help it. You smell divine, you look perfect, you taste amazing and you feel just right in my arms. I don't want to let you go into those tunnels and my wolf wants to rip apart anyone who comes near you.'

I grabbed his hair and pulled his head away from my skin so I could look at him. There was a big part of me that tried to rebel against the words I threw out but I said it anyway. 'Are you going to be a problem when we go in? Cause if you can't let me do my job, you need to stay here!'

He tensed but his Alpha spoke up before he could respond. 'Jack is the best man for the job. You won't find anyone better to protect you.'

I kept Jack's face from my neck and turned to look at his Alpha. 'The voices in my head are making fun of me, because of him, and I don't appreciate it. He's behaving like a damned pup. If he gets under foot when there is a situation, he could get us all killed.' I told them seriously while Daniel shut down the whole shitshow, that was laughing harder now, and cracking more jokes in the link.

His Alpha looked shocked and a bit sad. 'He is staying with you. He will protect you with his life, I can guarantee it. Accept it.'
I could hear the command in his tone and smirked. Before I could reply though, Daniel put his hand up to me so I could take it. He had always done that because he knew my history and he knew I felt threatened by them. He never linked me without warning me in some way. Slowly I released Jack's hair, dragging my hand down the side of his face before putting it in Daniel's hand. He carefully pulled me closer and linked me. I let him into my head and he sounded careful. 'He behaves like a fully mated male. You've seen it often enough to know how this works. He stays with you. If you don't want him around, tell me and I'll fix it but I think we'll have to kill him. You haven't stopped him, so you obviously don't have that much of a problem with it. We can figure out what his history is after the mission. But for now...'

Daniel looked at me. Jack rumbled behind me because another man was holding my hand. I glanced back and saw that the other Alpha had his hand on Jack's arm while Jack glared solidly at Daniel. He had even removed his arms from my middle, his Alpha obviously made him behave.

I linked back so only my Alpha could hear me. 'But his wolf?...'

Daniel understood my question and replied with a wry grin. 'That was his wolf, protecting his mate. That was a full Lycan display of dominance to show us all you are his world. He would have killed the interloper. Any interloper, even your brother. The human side was on his knees apologising. The Lycan side clearly claimed you, kissing and touching you like that. I don't think anyone else will get past him. You picked a good one. His line is a very strong beta line.'
