Our entry point was an old abandoned building around the corner of our target. The scouts had found a tunnel system under the area. We all assumed that our enemy would be aware of them, so we had to go in on guard. Our expectation was that they would have some sort of booby traps, surveillance or worst case, guards trained against supernaturals.

We would have one scout going in front of us, to determine if there were any traps or cameras. We would follow. The rest of the team would be in the decrepit warehouse, waiting for a signal from us. There was one car and the rest had been moved a few blocks over, blending into a parking lot where they wouldn't attract unwanted attention.

Jack seemed quite unconcerned with the looks he was getting. I had told him about no kissing in front of the rest of the team but, he pointed out with a cheesy grin, I hadn't said he couldn't touch me. He was continuously touching me, holding my hand, standing against my back.

"Jesus, fucking H, Christ, why don't you just piss on her. It'd be more pleasant than what you're doing now. You've made your point man! No trespassing on the small she-warrior until you're done." One of the scouts from another pack finally snapped at Jack.

Jack's voice was calm and cold as he tensed and turned his full attention to the scout. "Until I'm done?"

"Well, she's not marked and seems to be quite willing to play with you." The fool smirked.

"Are you implying that you will wait for me to leave before you make a move on her?" Jack made a sound that had the hair on my neck stand up, I wanted to run.

Erik stepped up to his brother and pulled me in front of himself, between them both. Jack moved to step aside, a low rumble in his chest but Erik stepped with him and moved me along. His voice was low. One word. And then he pushed me into Jack, hard. Sorry.

Sorry my ass, he wasn't sorry, he had just pushed me at a pissed of Lycan. A high ranking Lycan, they were stronger, faster, smarter, they had worse everything too, protective instinct was overboard and anger could quickly turn to killing rage.
Jack grabbed my arms and I flinched. He looked down, still rumbling his rage, eyes bright and dangerous. So, I tried to do what I had learned to do in situations like this, submit, eyes down and to the side, neck exposed. I shrank into myself, my chin was on my chest. Instead of calming down, as I expected and hoped, Jack growled ferociously.

"Take a deep breath, Jack!" Erik growled. While Jack still clutched my arms tightly and trying to see the scout who had started this. Jack instinctively listened to his older brother while I tried not to move in fear of catching the attention of this angry Lycan. Suddenly my arms were released and Jack was on his knees holding my waist. His arms wrapped around me.

"I'm sorry, Cloe! I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!" He chanted shamelessly into my stomach. Over and over. Anyone could have been excused to think that I was his mate. I'd seen grown men, fierce warriors, on their knees for their mate.

"Get up, people are starting to watch!" I told him as I saw that some of the people closest to us were staring at him on his knees.

"Let them. I scared you." He looked up with a heartbroken expression. "Did I hurt you? I was just so angry. He implied that he would get you, if I leave you alone!"

"Get up!" I tried to unwrap his huge arms while Erik chuckled beside me drawing my attention.

"This is your fault, you bastard! You pushed me into him."

"Sorry. Not sorry. He would have killed the idiot who thinks you're just a pretty face and that would have jeopardised the mission. You were the only thing that could distract him. He just had to breath in deeply enough to register your fear over his anger."

Jack growled again, this time I felt it travel through my body. I was human, he was Lycan. He was at my stomach. I tensed in fear. It didn't matter that I could take a Lycan in a fight, I didn't matter that I could fight. If he lost control, I would be dead. In this position there wouldn't be anyone who could save me.

Mark said my name and stepped slowly closer to where I could see him. "Help me, Mark." A soft plea fell from my lips without thought.

Jack growled again. I trembled as his arms tightened around me.

"He won't hurt you, Sis. Just relax."

"He's not getting anywhere near you. None of them are!" Jack growled dangerously as he rose to tower over me. He didn't let me go.

"You're scaring my sister!" Mark growled, sounding equally dangerous.

"I'm here to make sure she's not hurt! She'll never be hurt with me beside her!" Jack finally looked down at me and frowned. His voice softened and he trailed a finger down my cheek to direct my face up to his. "What is it you fear, my little warrior?"

I couldn't tell him, he looked so fierce and sounded so sincere. He backed away to look at me, one step. But I couldn't tell him he was what I feared in that moment. He wouldn't understand because he didn't have all the information. My human body didn't heal like they did, I had no claws or fangs to protect myself from a close encounter like this. In this moment I didn't know anything important about him other than the fact that he could snap me in half and I wouldn't heal.

My answer wasn't voiced but he saw and flinched. His looked absolutely shattered and Mark immediately backed away. Everyone backed away, they'd all seen my truth even if only my pack knew the reason. Slowly Jack started to sink down in front of me again, it was almost like he was physically unable to carry the burden of my truth. But I wasn't going to let him. This strong, proud male shouldn't be reduced to this.
I stepped in and wrapped my arms around him to hold him. To hold him up. He didn't hug me back until I whispered. 'Please?' I had no idea what I was asking but he wrapped his arms around me, carefully, gently. His lips touched my head in a feather light touch. 'I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry, my Love! I will do anything to make it up to you. Please tell me I have a chance that you will forgive me one day!'

An involuntary smile crept onto my lips, my arms didn't release him but my heart begged to see him smile again. Without his help I barely made it to his neck where I nipped his skin and left a soft kiss. 'I'll forgive you, but this is the last time I carry your spare ammo, Boy! Next time, bring a trolley for that shit.'

Surprised by my answer he laughed. He dropped his forehead to mine and grinned. 'Next time. As long as I'll get my next times, I'll carry anything you want! I'm sorry I sc..' He swallowed hard. The words seemed stuck in his throat, he scared me, he couldn't say it. The heartbroken expression was back.

There was only one way to deal with this. Sasha style. I warned my pack in the link that I was fine and not to worry. Then I fluttered my eyes and dropped like a dead weight in his arms. He caught me, as I had counted on. His gasp told me I'd scared shit out of him and I immediately opened my eyes to grin into his wide worried eyes. 'There, scared you back, now we're even!'

Erik burst out laughing along with my pack members. Daniel and Xavier grinned and Jack looked stunned. It didn't last long though, he grabbed me tighter and mumbled. 'You deserve to be punished for that!'

'Yeah!?' I challenged. 'What you gonna do about it? Scare me again?'

His eyes lit up with his Lycan side and his grin had a feral edge when he said. 'Never again!'

Then he bent his head and claimed my lips in an earth-shattering kiss. He kissed me until my knees were weak. When he straightened his arms were the only thing keeping me upright and my breath came out in pants.

'Damned man, I didn't know you were newly mated. Too bad for you that you couldn't just mark her before the mission.' The scout, who had caused this all, told Jack from a decent distance.

The only reply he got was a whack over the head from my brother and some unexpected chuckles from Jack's pack members.
