A canon sounds and Katniss is quick to put an arrow in his chest.
Cashmere emerges from the water and Lilith unsheathes her swords. She lunges towards Cashmere, but she brings to run away. But, fortunately, she trips over a rock and falls to the ground. She rolls over and looks at Lilith, she knows she's done for. Then, Lilith is able to drive her swords into her chest.
There are two other tributes that seem to have allied with Cashmere and Gloss, and they begin attacking as well.
Lilith ducks as the girl throws a knife towards her head. As she stands up straight, she sees Katniss run after the girl, and decides to follow her.
Just as they round the corner, Lilith sees Silas get stabbed in the side with a spear by one of the other tributes. She forgets all about Katniss, and be-lines for her brother.
She kneels on the ground next to Silas. He's coughing harshly, holding his side in pain.
"You're gonna be okay. We're gonna get out," Lilith assures, more for herself than for him.
"Lil-"
"No. Stop it," Lilith says quickly.
"Please don't leave me, Silas. I need you." Lilith can feel her throat closing up, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes.
"You can do this. Don't let me down, okay?" Silas says, his voice rougher and quieter than usual.
Lilith shakes her head in denial. He can't die, not here, not like this. They were supposed to make it out together. They were supposed to survive this.
"Silas, please," Lilith chokes out, gripping her brother's hand tightly. "You have to hold on-"
Suddenly, the cornucopia begins spinning. She rolls onto her back, sliding down the piece of land as it begins spinning faster. She grips Silas's hand tightly, not wanting to lose him just yet.
The force from the spinning land threatens to pull both her and Silas into the raging water. She holds onto Silas, and a piece of rock, for dear life. There's no way she can hold on forever, and she knows that.
Lilith desperately looks down at Silas, seeing the pain in his eyes. He looks at her, nodding his head slightly.
"You have to let go," Silas says as loud as he can. It's still quiet due to the loudness of the waves, but she can hear him.
Deep down, Lilith knows he's right, but she doesn't want to let him go. Silas isn't going to make it either way, but if she lets go, maybe Lilith can make it out. Lilith sees the sadness in Silas's eyes, but she also sees hope. Lilith swallows her tears, and clenches her jaw.
She squeezes her eyes shut, and lets go of her brother's hand. She reaches her now free hand up to grab onto another rock. Lilith hides her face onto the rocky terrain, not wanting the cameras to see the vulnerability on her face. As much as she tries not to cry, one lone tear ends up rolling off of her cheek.
Then, the island stops spinning, but Lilith doesn't move. She doesn't want to. Her brother, the only reason she was trying so hard in the first place, is gone. A canon booms. They must've waited so she could hear it. Bastards.
"Lilith?" Finnick's voice comes from beside her.
She picks up her heavy head, looking up at Finnick with sadness in her eyes. "I lost him.."
"Come on," Finnick says solemnly.
He extends his hand to Lilith, which she takes. He pulls her to her feet. She turns her head to see Johanna and Peeta helping Katniss out of the water.
When she came into the Quell, she was only going to halfheartedly protect Katniss. That was because her main goal was to make sure her and Silas got out of the arena alive.
But, now that his soul with forever be stuck here, she comes up with a new goal. A goal to protect Katniss with everything in her. A goal that will make Silas proud. She can't let his death mean nothing. She has to finish what he started.
"Let's just get what we need and get off the bloody island," Johanna says loudly.
"Let's go," Lilith mumbles to Finnick and walks towards the cornucopia to help grab supplies.
