Lilith has been sitting in the corner of her cell after one of her button sessions. Her hand has healed some, although it's a bit sore. Melinda won't talk to her. She just sits in the opposite corner, looking sad and tired. Lilith believes that Melinda thinks she's a horrible person. Lilith herself thinks she's a horrible person. She's starting to remember how she felt when she was fifteen.
Lilith wishes she never agreed to join the rebellion. If she hadn't, she would probably have won the games, and everything would've been fine. She wishes she never fell for Finnick, that would make it all so much easier.
A guard comes up to the door, and unlocks it. Although she thinks it's odd she's being taken out again, she doesn't question it. She wordlessly follows the guard. He takes her out of the prison, and into a different part of the building. He brings her to a room. She obediently sits in a chair and waits. President Snow walks in and sits in the chair opposite of her.
"Hello, Ms. Monroe," He greets. Lilith lifts her eyes to look at the man. She used to worship him, now she doesn't know. She's confused. "I called you here for a very important reason."
"What's that?" Lilith replies softly.
"I want you to do something for me," Snow says. He looks intensely at Lilith, his eyes piercing into hers.
"What?" Lilith asks.
"How would you like to go on a mission? Just like how you would back on the Peacekeeper squad?" Snow says.
A mission? Peacekeeper squad? "What do you mean?"
"I have a uniform for you. I want you to do an interview with Caesar Flickerman," Snow says.
Lilith doesn't know what to say. She's so tired, so she's willing to do anything. "Okay."
"Wonderful," He says, leaning back in his chair. "You will be escorted to get ready now."
Lilith doesn't say anything. She's just being used. That's how it's been. She was used by her District, she was used by Snow, she was used by the rebels, and now she's being used by Snow once more. She's used to it.
Lilith is prepped and dressed for this interview. She sees herself in a mirror for the first time in a while, and it's not exactly a pretty sight. She's pale, and her cheeks have hollowed in a bit. Her eyes are sunken and it's obvious she hasn't been sleeping. But, those makeup artists are able to make her look a little better. It's not the best, but it's okay.
She is escorted to a room, and is surprised to see Peeta there. At first, she's scared to be near him. Especially after making him hurt the most when she pushes the buttons. But, she just decides not to look at him.
He looks at her, though. She can feel his eyes on her. She breaks and glances over at him. He looks awful.
"Places everyone!" The director announces. Lilith is shoved into a chair. She sits up and adjusts herself. "Action!"
"This has come to a shock for all of Panem. What I think is so strange, is that she was loved by the whole country. But, this has to be particularly hard for you, Peeta," Caesar Flickerman says.
"I wish I could give this rose to you, Katniss," Peeta mumbles, looking at the white rose in his hands.
Caesar senses that Peeta needs a moment, so he turns to Lilith. "Thank you for joining us this evening, Lilith."
"It's a pleasure," Lilith tries to keep her voice sweet, but it's a bit scratchy from her lack of talking.
"You were fairly close with Mr. Odair, is that correct?" Caesar questions.
"Yes. I was," She answers sadly.
"Did you know he was going to leave you like that?" Caesar looks at her intensely.
She knows she's not supposed to say anything about being apart of the rebellion. She has to change her mindset back to a Career. "No, I did not. It was shocking."
"Peeta," Caesar turns back to him. "You must love her very much in order to forgive her. I don't think I could. Unless, of course, you believe she's being forced into saying things that she doesn't even understand."
"Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly what I think. They're using her to whip up the rebels. I doubt she even knows what's happening, what's really at stake," Peeta says. His voice is shaky and hoarse. He's in worse shape than Lilith thought. She feels guilty that she caused this.
"Well, Peeta, I doubt that the rebels would ever let her see this, but if they do, what would you say to her? To Katniss Everdeen, the once sweet Katniss Everdeen? What would you say to her?"Caesar says, pointing at Peeta.
"I- I would tell her to think for herself," Peeta stutters.
"Yes," Caesar encourages Peeta to keep going.
Peeta looks directly into the camera. "Don't be a fool, Katniss. I know you never wanted the rebellion. The things that you did in the games weren't intended to start all of this. The rebels have made you into something you're not, something that could destroy all of us. So if you have any power or any say, in what they do or how they use you, please, please urge them to stop this war, before it's too late. Ask yourself, can you trust the people you're working with? Do you know what they really want?"
"Thank you, Peeta, for those kind words," Caesar says with a look of sympathy. Caesar then turns to Lilith once more. "Lilith, is there anything you would like to say before we wrap up this broadcast?"
Lilith takes a breath when she's addressed. She remembers what Snow wants her to do. He wants her to help put an end to this nonsense. "Yes, there is."
"By all means," Caesar says gesturing to the camera.
"People of Panem," Lilith says looking into the camera lenses. "I want you to know that I have been reinstated into the Peacekeeper force, and I will help put an end to this chaos. You must ask yourselves, would you rather destroy everything, or be able to live?"
"Thank you," Caesar says. Then the broadcast is ended.
Lilith is escorted to a room with weapons and white combat suits. She looks around at everything. Then the door opens, and a familiar little girl walks in.
"Melinda?" Lilith questions.
"Yes," She says.
"What?" Lilith says with a look of confusion.
"Let me explain," Melinda says.
What is going on?
