Chapter 13

Nik watched as Hazel looked through the foliage around them. They had made it to Washington and were looking for packs in the mountains. He was so distracted that he hadn't realized they had company until it was too late.

Hazel screamed in surprise when she found herself wrapped in burly, smelly, sweaty arms. She looked to Nik and gasped, there was a stake in his shoulder. That pissed her off. The man holding her screamed in pain when she shifted and bit into his arm.

Nik could only watch in surprise as Hazel turned into a black jaguar. "Holy hell" he gasped, pulling the stake out.

The other attackers tried to run but were cut off by the jaguar. Nik approached the three morons and growled. He had to hide his surprise when the jaguar bumped his leg with her head and chuffed.

"You three should die for attacking us but I'll forgive you if you take us to your pack."

Hazel shifted back and grabbed her water bottle. She needed to get the taste out of her mouth. "Eugh! Do you not know what soap is?" She glared at the man she had bitten and gargled her water before spitting it out. 

Nik snorted at her before looking back to the three terrified men. "So, care to show us the way?" They nodded and led the two up the mountain.

Hazel knew he would ask but was surprised he waited until they were headed back to the hotel to ask. They had changed the pack today and knew of two more in the state. 

"When did you learn how to become a jaguar?"

Hazel smirked, "I had been working on it since the war. I had a lot of free time in the tent when I wasn't running for my life. It's a long process to become an Animagus but I finally finished it about a month ago." she laughed and added, "Gave Stuffy a right good scare."

Nik laughed, "Well you definitely surprised me. I still can't believe you asked if he knew what soap was."

They both laughed at that. Hazel sighed, "My dad and godfather were Animagus too. That's what made me want to do it. I felt like I could honor them with it."

Nik knew her birth family was a difficult subject for her, he was glad she hadn't been left to be raised by her horrible aunt. Pulling into the hotel, he parked. "I'll get us a room, this place is probably the nicest one so far."

Hazel smiled at him, "I don't know, I enjoyed the last few."

Nik smirked before leaning over to kiss her. "I'll be right back."

Hazel finished her shower, using magic to dry her hair. She was hoping that tonight she could get Nik to take the next step. They were almost done with their trip, and she knew they'd have to go back soon, back to their families. Taking a deep breath, she exited the bathroom to find Nik lying shirtless on the bed. Gawd, he was a masterpiece.

Nik could hear Hazel's heart racing, when the bathroom door opened, he froze. Hazel was standing there in just a towel. He arched an eyebrow as she walked to the bed. They had seen each other naked plenty times now but something about her demeanor said this was different. "Luv" he growled as she climbed onto the bed.

Hazel gathered her courage and dropped the towel. She watched as his eyes roamed over her body. When he met her eyes again, she leaned towards him and kissed him. 

Nik gripped her and flipped their positions. He smirked when Hazel let out a squeak. Leaning over her, he hovered over her, "What do you want luv?"

"You" Hazel made sure to keep eye contact, he was looking for something and he seemed to have found it because he smiled and took her mouth with his.
