Maya's world seemed to spin out of control. The betrayal she felt from Gelo, combined with the heartache of his public declaration with Angie, overwhelmed her. As the bright light of the approaching vehicle drew closer, her life felt like it was ending, each moment blurring together in her pain and confusion.

In the split second before impact, her mind raced through memories with Gelo and the happiness they once shared. Her heartache was palpable, but so was the fleeting hope that somehow this suffering could be a dream.

As Maya lost consciousness, her thoughts faded, and everything went dark. She didn’t know how long she was out, but when she awoke, she found herself in a hospital bed. The soft beeping of machines and the gentle hum of fluorescent lights above told her she was safe but in a fragile state.

The first person she saw upon waking was Tina, her friend, with tears in her eyes. Tina had been  frantic after Maya’s accident and had called Gelo, who was now pacing nervously in the hallway.

“Maya! Oh, thank God, you’re awake!” Tina exclaimed, rushing to her side.

Maya tried to sit up but winced in pain. “What happened?” she asked weakly, her voice barely audible.

“You were hit by a car,” Tina explained, trying to stay calm. “But you’re going to be okay. You had a concussion and some bruises, but the doctors say you’ll recover.”

Maya looked around the room, noticing the absence of Gelo. She felt a pang of disappointment, knowing he hadn’t been there when she awoke.

“Gelo?” she asked quietly.

Tina sighed. “He’s out there, but he’s been very upset. He was frantic when he heard what happened. He’s been waiting for you to wake up so he can talk to you.”

Maya’s heart sank. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to face him. The pain and anger she felt were still fresh, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to see him at all.

“Tell him I need some time,” Maya said softly. “I don’t want to see him right now.”

Tina nodded, understanding Maya’s need for space. “I’ll let him know.”

As Tina stepped out to inform Gelo, Maya closed her eyes, feeling a mix of exhaustion and relief. She needed time to process everything that had happened and to figure out what her next steps would be. The path ahead seemed uncertain, but for now, she was safe, and that was a small comfort.

Tina stepped into the hallway, where Gelo was pacing back and forth, his hands running through his hair in frustration and anxiety. When he saw Tina, he immediately rushed over.

“How is she? Is she okay?” he asked, his voice trembling with worry.

Tina gave him a reassuring nod but held up a hand to stop his questions. “She’s awake, and she’s going to be okay, but she needs some time. She doesn’t want to see you right now.”

Gelo’s face fell. He had been so desperate to see Maya, to explain everything, to tell her how sorry he was. The weight of his actions felt heavier than ever, and now that she was awake, he felt both a rush of relief and a surge of guilt.

“Please, Tina,” Gelo pleaded, his voice cracking. “I need to talk to her. I need to make things right.”

Tina shook her head firmly. “Gelo, she’s been through a lot. She’s hurt, both physically and emotionally. Right now, what she needs is rest. Give her some space.”

Gelo clenched his fists, trying to control the turmoil of emotions inside him. He nodded reluctantly, knowing Tina was right. “Okay,” he whispered, his voice filled with regret. “But please, tell her… tell her I’m sorry. Tell her I never meant to hurt her. I was just… I was confused. I made a mistake.”
