Season 2 Chapter 14: The top of the hierarchy

Tyler was shaking, holding the arm of Rachel on his hand. He was kneeling down on the sand, and started to hug the remainings of Rachel.

Lotte-"Tyler?... Where's Rachel?..."

Diana-"What happened there?!... Is that arm..."

Akko started to shake Tyler, trying to get him to speak, to even react, but he didn't.

His breathing became heavier and heavier as he gazed at the blood on the sand, on his hands, arms. All of that blood wasn't his.

He didn't let go, he didn't even react.

Theia looked down at the boy with pity, and placed him on the shore, staring at the sea.

"I know you're troubled, but remember what you saw. Your friend is in peace now"

Tyler-"... N.. no... No she didn't die... She's still out there, I'm sure! Send me back!"

"She did. But not to worry, she will be resting in peace in floor 2. You were there, I can assure you. She won't suffer."

He didn't respond this time, and started to sob as everyone else, processing their friend's death.

Why did she stay there? Why didn't she pass through the portal? Those questions pondered in their minds, but maybe they could ask her themselves.

If they could just go back a couple floors.

Theia used some subtle magic, calming their racing minds even if slightly.

"You can say goodbye. I can send you all to the second floor to talk to her, and then you'll all go back to the surface shortly after"

Diana-"That... That would be nice"

Tyler-"Yeah... Send us"

"Not you, Tyler. I'm really sorry, but a higher deity demands your presence... Or rather, someone else's"

Tyler-"What?!... No! I refuse! Fuck that God, I want to go see Rachel!"

"I'm sorry"

Tyler-"No"

"I'm afraid neither you nor I can refuse, I'm merely following orders"

Tyler- He turned towards Lotte, and patted her shoulder- "Tell her... that I'm sorry, for me"

Lotte-"Don't worry... I will. Don't die"

Tyler-"I won't"

"Let's go"

Tyler sighed, and nodded, brushing some tears off his cheeks and waiting for Theia to send everyone else to the second floor.

"I know you still can't fully accept her death"

Tyler-"She will always live down here... Right? I can come to visit"

"Maybe"

She stood by the ocean, looking at the vastness of it next to Tyler. Small fish swam around, each one was black, with white eyes.

"Across this vast ocean, countless souls rest, and you will too someday. You're not the first here, and you will certainly not be the last"

Tyler-"Wait... But that's only if I die here right?"

"Not quite... No matter where you are, which world, all souls end up here, just in different sections. We'll see again eventually"

Tyler-"So... There is an afterlife"

"Correct, we have a place for every soul for every world. Now, allow me to send you to the deepest hole in the hierarchy of existence"

With one movement of her hand, a worn down, gray door appeared beneath Tyler, opening instantly and sending him down.
