~TW: large mention of alcohol.~
Y/n and Chris dated most of high school and right up until him and his brothers left for L.A. They even toughed it out when she went off for college at N.Y.U. Which is only a couple hours away, while California is on the other side of the country. Something about the extra distance seemed scary, she was the one who ended it. Saying they'd stay friends, but we all know that's never what happens.
They've been broken up for a little over 2 years at this point. Y/n has had situations with other guys, but never on the same level as with Chris. Speaking of which he still isn't over her. He's not afraid of women, just afraid of being with a woman who's not her.
Over these two years they've not seen each other, but still followed each other vaguely on socials. That was until tonight, y/n was back from college for the week, while chris and his brothers were doing the same. A mutual friend of theirs was throwing a Halloween party, both planning on attending with no knowledge of the other being there.
Chris dressed up as Maverick from Top Gun, planning on wearing the costume again, y/n had a different costume for each party, this one in particular she was dressed as a playboy bunny. Big hair, teased bangs, lingerie, heels, and fishnets. Basic but iconic nonetheless.
The party started at 9 but she was self aware enough to not show up until after 10. She was cordial talking to those she knew, and anyone who had a good costume or something interesting to say. About 10 minutes in she decided she needed a drink to deal with people she hadn't seen since high school. While freeing a white claw out of the case located in the fridge, she heard a voice she recognized.
"Nate?!" She said pulling her head and arm away from the fridge. "Heyy y/n! It's been forever!" He shouted back over the music, looking at the girl who was already taller than him, but even taller in heels. After hugging each other and asking about the other's current life endeavors, the dreaded awkwardness arrived.
"Hey is uhmm, he here?" Y/n asked not having seen him quite yet but knowing if he was in town he'd be here. "Yeahhh." Was all Nate could muster. "Well it was good talking to you." Y/n said turning to leave the situation that went from weird to weirder. Before she could even make it all the way out of the kitchen she heard his voice. "Nate what's taking so long?" The undeniable confirmation that it was in fact Chris. "Oh hey
Y/n." Chris said at the girl now eye level with him. "Heyy." All she could think was 'wow and I thought talking to Nate was weird.'"How've you been?" He asked just trying to be polite. "Things are good yknow I love New York, how's L.A?" She asked looking down at her feet, in the gorgeous toe pinching shoes. "Just grinding it up, working." Chris said grabbing his drink from Nate. "Well we should probably go find Nick and Matt. It was good seeing you though." He said with a half smile. "Yeah you guys too." The second they left the kitchen she went back for another white claw knowing the night could only get worse.
5 white claws, some table dancing, and a broken heel later, some back home friends decided she needed to be taken home. The worst part was it was 2. 2 in the morning and 2 years later and she still hadn't gotten over Chris despite what she had told herself.
"Hey Chrissssss!" The girl drunkenly slurred falling into him. "Hi? How much did she drink?" He asked your good friend Jamie who had been given the awful job of babysitting. "I lost count an hour ago, I'm trying to get her home." The girl said holding your purse and shoes. "Here we can take her." Matt said chiming up in the back, as Nick went to grab your things. "Are you sure she's a handful?" Jamie said graciously handing off your belongings. "Yeah we've got her, try not babysitting anyone else though!" Chris said making her laugh, and Jamie thanked them all. "Where are we going?" You asked almost falling.
"We're taking you home." Chris said holding onto you. "No!!! My mom's gonna be so mad!!" You start to cry. "No she won't." Nate reassured. "Hey why don't we just take her, mom won't care?" Nick suggested opening the back door for you, Chris, and him, letting Nate sit up front.
"I mean it makes my life easier." Matt laughed starting the car.
The next morning you woke up with your stuff on the chair next to Chris's bed. As well as a pounding headache and no recollection of the night or more few hours beforehand. You did recognize where you had woken up, and a posted note sitting on top of a shirt and pajama pants that read; "just incase you don't want my mom to see your everything hanging out of that costume."
You change into the clothes and wash your face in Chris's bathroom, removing the smeared trashy makeup. You muster up enough courage to walk downstairs finding Chris on the couch on his phone snuggled in a blanket surprised he's up considering last night and that it's before noon.
"Hi." You say loaded with confusion. "Hey." Chris says sitting up on the couch. "Do you want coffee or something?" He asks quietly acknowledging the fact that you are definitely hung over "Well food might be beneficial." You laugh quietly. "Is anyone else up?" You ask noticing the complete silence. "Mary Lou and dad already left for work, and Nick and Matt are still asleep, I figured you would rather not be seen this morning." Chris laughed pouring some cereal.
"I remember literally nothing." You said shoving your face in your hands, wishing he would have seen a more well presented you last night and this morning. "Well Jamie was babysitting you after about 3 drinks in, and then we offered to take you home but you were afraid your mom would be mad." Chris laughed under his breath.
"You also danced on the kitchen counter during 'Smack That' by Akon and Eminem." Chris laughed softly once again. "Was it good dancing?" You said looking up from your cereal. "Definitely the best I've ever seen." Chris said smiling at you. "I think seeing you was probably not good for my liver last night." You said with your head in your hands. "Well it made me feel better about how I'm doing." Chris said not taking his eyes off you. "When are you guys going back?"
"Actually we might not." Chris said looking back at his breakfast. "What?" You say darting your eyes up. "Yeah L.A was great for a while but it's not Boston." He said with his head low. "I'm sorry to hear that. Well have you got anyone in cali?" You say trying to lighten the mood.
"Nope! You bagged any New Yorkers?" Chris said finally looking back at you. "Nope!" You smiled "I would love to see you guys more if you moved back." You continued "I'd love that too."
