"1994, was the year wasn't it? The year where it all started between us, where you fell for me... where you loved me, the year we cherished the idea of us. What happened to us, Randal? Where is the same body beneath this snow that surfed the waves in the summer sea under the blazing sun without a trend of fear? Randal..oh Randy..in the next life do you think we'll be together? Maybe in the next life, we could make it work out?"
Senior year was beginning near its end, spring break was just about to start in a couple hours and what made it a problem is that baseball only had a couple more games before the season ended. Justin Jones was a star athlete, he had wealth, popularity, charm, and the body of a god according to some classmates. Justin was raised right and yet despite all of his great praise his academics were a mess and it was only because of his value and likeness that he was still on the team. Thankfully for him Randal Evens, (or just Randy is what Justin liked to call him was in the same team and always gave a lending hand when rarely asked for help. Justin had dark brown properly groomed hair and hazel honey eyes to match. When next to Randal, Justin seemed to have freckled olive skin compared to Randal's smooth pale complexion. The moon-kissed boy had dark red unkempt hair and even darker roots, he had moles scattered across his face with crooked teeth that did not help with his self-esteem. Randal and Justin had the best chemistry not just as teammates but as best friends who had history since they met in freshman year. Ever since then, the boys were always known to be together... as best buds.
"Hahahaha", the class laughs and snickers after hearing Justin's crazy story. The class is on break, and Justin is trying to lighten the mood before the next lesson starts."Haha, Justin you're such a liar~", says one of his cheerleader friends. "Swear to God", Justin responds, grinning and smiling with the other students, feeling energized by the joy and laughter he brought them. Randy chimes in laughing, doubting his claims.
"Hey hey, watch it guys! That happened!" Justin jokes, punching Randy lightly on the arm. "Well, maybe not exactly how I told it, but you know what I mean!" The two share a laugh, their bond as teammates and friends evident even amidst the playful teasing. Justin leans in closer to Randy, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "So, have you heard about Coach Thompson's plans for our upcoming games?" He started, "I heard he will keep the grade standard and enforce it even more this time. I'm not too worried about it given that my lowest grade is a C+."
Justin's smile falters slightly at Randy's words, a shadow of concern crossing his face. "Oh man, seriously? That's freaking brutal." He shakes his head, running a hand through his short gelled hair. "My grades haven't been great lately... I didn't realize Coach was gonna crack down like that." He sighs heavily, anxiety gnawing at the pit of his stomach. "If I flunk out, my popularity's toast. Everyone assumes I got cut from the team cuz I couldn't hack it academically..." A grimace twists his features at the thought of losing face among his peers. "I need to find a way to bump up these GPAs ASAP, dude."
"Well, just how bad is it?" Randy asked. Justin's gaze drops to the floor, avoiding eye contact as he scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. "Honestly? Not great. I'm barely scraping by with D's and F's across the board."
A resigned chuckle escapes him. "I've been too busy partying and chilling with the crew to worry much about homework. Guess that caught up with me big time." He shakes his head ruefully, a hint of self-recrimination creeping into his tone. "Shoulda knew better than to think I could coast through school while still making varsity baseball." Glancing sidelong at Randy, he asks quietly, "Got any ideas how I might salvage this situation without, y'know, tanking my rep completely?"Randy replies with a twinge of remorse for Justin "Tutoring dude, I heard there's this program that teachers are doing that could help, so far I'm not the best guy to ask about science so maybe just ask me about math."
