Hidden Truths

Iruma Suzuki was all by himself in his room. His eyes moved towards the sky outside the window, where the moon held full court. The cool, silvery glow of the moon filtered in through the window, bathing everything in an ethereal light.

He pressed a shaking hand against the swell of his stomach, his brain racing with thoughts that were too big, too impossible to keep inside. How had this happened?

How had he, a human boy, managed to end up pregnant with the children of his most demonically harsh teacher, Kalego Naberius-a demon who showed little emotion other than frustration or disdain?

It was that instant when the scales had fallen off his eyes and he saw reality-the movement of the world around him-how exhaustion draped itself over him like a wet, clinging mantle; waves of nausea billowing upwards and then retreating, rubbing against rock surfaces lining his belly; and then.

The unmistakable commotion of life within him. At first, he thought it was his imagination-a trick of the mind birthed from stress and fear. But then Balam-sensei, his gentle, ever-curious teacher, confirmed that Iruma's world did get turned upside down.

"Iruma-kun... You are pregnant," Balam said in a voice that slightly shook with shock and caution, as if speaking too loud would shatter Iruma completely. "With triplets.". The word was echoing in Iruma's ears like a distant crash.

This wasn't possible, couldn't be true, and yet. The truth was undeniable. His hand had moved to his stomach with a quivering touch-a mix of wonder and dread so tightly knotted in his heart.

How could this be? He was human, and Kalego. Kalego was a powerful demon.

The logistics, the biology-everything about this was wrong. And yet, here he was, carrying three small lives inside him. The days that followed were hazy with panic and planning. Iruma couldn't bear to meet up with Kalego.

How would he react?

What could he possibly say?

His heart ached with fear and uncertainty.

Would Kalego be angry?

Would he reject him, their children? Kalego demanding an explanation he just didn't have? He had agonized over it for hours, pacing his room, his mind racing with scenarios that ranged from Kalego's cold indifference to outright fury.

But the one that frightened him most was this: Kalego would simply turn his back on him, on their children-on the fragile, impossible family that somehow had come into being. Iruma had seen glimpses of kindness in Kalego, moments when his hard expression would soften ever so slightly; would that be enough, or would it even matter?

He couldn't...

He dares not...

He could not risk his children being shunned, being regarded as mistakes or abominations. He had to safeguard them at all costs, regardless of what that would involve.

He would have to keep the secret to himself, hide his growing belly, and pray that no one was aware of it until he was able to figure out what to do. Sullivan was the first to notice. Iruma had tried to hide it, but the older demon was too observant, too doting to miss the signs.

"Iruma, my boy," Sullivan had murmured, his voice laced with concern. "What troubles you? Iruma had hesitated, his heart clenched with fear. But he couldn't lie to Sullivan, not completely.

"Grandfather. I...I'm pregnant," he had whispered, his voice barely more than a breath. "With Kalego-sensei's children." For some moments, Sullivan had stared at him with wide eyes in disbelief.
