The high and frantic activities of the Harvest Festival finally came to an end on the third day, leaving the school grounds littered with confetti, broken banners, and the remnants of a whirlwind celebration. Students retreated to their dorms, their laughter and chatter gradually fading into the night. For the teachers, however, the festivities were far from over.
This marked the time-honored tradition where the faculty gathered at the infamous Brawl Inn, a raucous tavern famed for its strong drinks, hearty meals, and the sheer chaos that followed every gathering. The tradition of feasting together was as old as the school itself, with each teacher taking turns as host. This year, the responsibility fell to Robin, much to Kalego's irritation.
Robin's endless energy and enthusiasm grated on Kalego more than he cared to admit. But tradition was tradition, and Kalego, ever dutiful to the school's customs, begrudgingly made an appearance-only to stand stiffly in the corner, scowling.
By dusk, the inn began to fill with teachers. They streamed in, shedding their usual professional demeanor for something more relaxed and jovial. Chatter and laughter grew into a lively hum, mingling with the clink of glasses and the warm aroma of roasted meats. Robin, ever observant, scanned the room.
He frowned as he noted several absentees. Turning to Buer and Murmur, two of the longest-serving members of the faculty, he inquired curtly, "Where are the others?"
Buer leaned back in his chair, swirling his drink. "Orias? Oh, he never comes to these things. Can't stand alcohol, you know."
Murmur chuckled. "And you know as well as I do that Kalego wouldn't set foot here unless someone dragged him. Probably slinking off right now."
"Balam?" Robin asked, his frown deepening.
"Balam? He's probably late as usual," Murmur replied, taking a lazy sip from his mug.
Before Robin could respond, the inn doors flew open with a resounding crash. In strode Balam, dragging none other than a very disgruntled Kalego by the collar of his jacket.
The room fell silent.
Kalego's presence at these gatherings was so rare that many of the younger teachers could scarcely believe their eyes. The last time they'd seen him at one of these events was when he'd hosted-and even then, it had been under duress.
"Caught him sneaking home," Balam announced with a wide grin, slapping Kalego's shoulder. "Dali insisted he come."
The room erupted into laughter. Even the more reserved teachers couldn't help but smirk at the sight of the usually stoic Kalego being manhandled like a delinquent student.
Muttering under his breath, Kalego slumped into a chair and gestured for the menu. He ordered a glass of Daikoku Makyu: The Thousand Years' Drop of Evil, the hardest and most expensive liquor available. If he had to endure this madness, he would do so with the strongest drink in the house-and with the Chairdemon footing the bill, no less.
As the hours passed, the atmosphere grew livelier-and messier. Teachers, tipsy and uninhibited, stumbled through animated conversations. Some had already left, too drunk to continue, while others stayed behind, their laughter echoing across the dimly lit room.
At one of the tables, a group of teachers had fallen into a spirited discussion, their plates half-eaten and glasses refilled. Kalego sat among them, silently nursing his drink. He rarely joined in the chatter, preferring instead to observe-or, more accurately, endure.
But as the liquor loosened his tongue and dulled his usual sharpness, Kalego leaned back in his chair and, in a rare moment of unguarded honesty, blurted out, "I've been courting Iruma for almost two months now."
Silence descended over the table like a sudden storm.
Wide-eyed, the teachers exchanged glances, unsure if they'd heard him correctly. Even the drunkest among them seemed to sober up for a moment, their gazes snapping to Kalego.
Dali was the first to break the silence. A mischievous grin spread across his face as he leaned forward. "The Lord of Darkness, in love with our sweet, innocent Iruma? Never thought I'd see the day!"
Robin, who had been mid-drink, choked and spluttered. "Wait-what?"
Kalego blinked, belatedly realizing what he'd just said. His face flushed, though whether from embarrassment or alcohol, no one could tell.
Balam, seated beside him, simply nodded, his expression calm. "It's true," he confirmed, his deep voice cutting through the tension.
The revelation sank in, and the room shifted from stunned silence to hushed murmurs.
"Well, I'll be," Buer muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
Robin, ever the optimist, raised his glass. "Congratulations, Kalego! You've found someone worth waiting for."
Kalego scowled, muttering something inaudible, but he didn't refute the sentiment.
By the next morning, the inn was quiet, save for the occasional groan of a hungover teacher and the clink of coffee cups. Kalego, ever punctual, prepared to leave as soon as possible, but Robin intercepted him near the door.
"Why don't you stay for breakfast?" Robin asked, his tone overly cheerful.
Kalego narrowed his eyes. "I'm not in the mood, Robin."
Robin leaned closer, his smile turning sly. "Oh, come on. If you don't, I might accidentally let slip a certain confession to a few more people."
Kalego's expression darkened. With a resigned sigh, he muttered, "Fine. I'll stay."
Unbeknownst to them, a teacher overheard the exchange and wasted no time sharing the news in the school's chat group.
By noon, rumors of Kalego's relationship with Iruma had spread like wildfire.
As Iruma walked through the hallways, students and staff approached him with curious smiles and whispered congratulations.
"Thank you for taming Kalego-sensei!" one student said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Taming?" Iruma repeated, blinking in confusion.
Another student chimed in, "We all thought something was up with Kalego-sensei lately-he's been so... mellow. Now it makes sense!"
Iruma's face turned bright red as he pieced together what had happened.
Rounding the corner, he nearly collided with Kalego, who looked as if he'd rather be anywhere else.
"Kalego-sensei," Iruma whispered, his voice panicked, "Did you hear about the rumors?"
Kalego sighed, rubbing his temples. "Yes. I may have... let it slip while I was drunk."
Iruma stared at him, his initial panic giving way to a small, hesitant smile. "Well... at least it wasn't on purpose."
The two walked to the Royal One classroom together, quietly discussing how to handle the situation. But as they entered, the misfits pounced.
"Congratulations, Iruma-kun!" Clara shouted, giggling. "Who knew Kalego-sensei had a soft spot for you!"
The teasing continued, laughter filling the room. Despite the embarrassment, Iruma felt a strange sense of relief. No matter what happened, they had people who supported them.
Not everyone was pleased.
In the shadows of the celebration, two demons stood apart, their expressions twisted with jealousy. As the others reveled, they whispered among themselves, their voices low and menacing.
"If they think this is going to last, they're sorely mistaken," one muttered.
The other nodded, a dark smile creeping across their face. "We'll tear them apart. And no one will ever suspect a thing."
Their plans were already in motion.
