So to begin this chapter we enter a flash back to a bit after Matthew passed out after blowing up arlong with good ol American power.

The crew has taken the liberty of only tieing up the marines, as namI decided they had done enough to the fishmen, and knew they wouldn't try anything.

They of course interrogated them, finding out the plan of the marines confiscating Nani treasure before she could finish the deal. Which only made nami punch him in the face.

The marines, before high tailing it, out. asked about matthew. Which luffy gave this response “oh yeah. That's matthew my first mate”

A subordinate of rat face asked “the man that killed arlong is your vice captain!?” which luffy only looked at his crew. They kinda just shrug which luffy does as well “Yeah sure.”

So with that we cut back to the present where Matthew was rubbing his eyes. “I'm vice captain… purely because none of yall wanted it.”

The rest of the crew just looked to the side avoiding their new vice captain's gaze. Tho only gin had a smile. He was Kriegs vice captain, and it sucked a good bit. He liked the power of it. But along with that a lot of grunt work came with it. Including maintaining kriegs 5000 men. So not having to do it was awesome.

Matthew's only real response to it was to go in the kitchen, grab a bottle of straight vodka, and chug.

He never even gave a thought about being labeled vice captain. He probably should have considered it since he was already the first mate. Along with Luffy asking his opinion on really anything.

He didn't really fight about it though. He was already going to stick through it, and he didn't really know what else he would be. Like zoro the swordsmen, sanji the cook, nami the navigator, usopp the sniper, gin the… experienced? Or brawler. And luffy the captain. So that just meant it was Matthew the vice now.

Well after this morning's surprise the merry continued its course to loguetown, otherwise known as the birthplace of the great pirate era.

The only main thing to note along the way, when Matthew was accepting the newspaper he asked a peculiar question to the bird “Heya friend. If I gave you a sandwich would you mind delivering a letter to someone. It's a bit dangerous but chill.”

The bird nodded. However when he saw the letter, his eyes widened dramatically. However he already ate the sandwich so now he had to deliver the letter.

So the bird flew off while the crew grew closer to the island. They nearly just pulled into the port until Matthew pointed out the marines will patrol this island to hell in back, so instead they pulled around to a more obscure part of the island out of view.

After ting of they all kinda went off to do their own things, luffy himself was dead set on seeing where the previous pirate king was murdered. Zoro was wanting to check out a sword shop since he broke the two replacement swords Matthew gave him. Usopp was just going to find “information or useful things.”

The only groups were sanji and gin who were going for food supplies and seeing about different cooking equipment. While Matthew and Nami were going to get clothes for the unpredictable weather that the beefy man had told about.

Matthew even tailored the other guy’s to get some clothes for them as well. They tried to insist they were fine but Matthew pointed out to them not changing clothes in 4 days… it instantly shut most of them besides luffy who pointed out “i didn’t know vice captains were mom-” was as far as he got till Matthew knocked him on the head… surprisingly leaving a giant whelp…

Matthew only looked at it, then to his fist, before walking away out of eye sight. While they thought he was mad… once he was fully out of sight, his heart nearly broke and he slid on the wall slightly. Since, he remembered a theory that the only reason nami punches did damage to luffy was that luffy viewed them the same as garp’s ‘fist of love’ meaning luffy thought more insanely high of him. Which just in turn just made him feel bad for actually damaging luffy.
