Jervis hmphed as she went around her duties, working as hard as she could to get everyone up to speed while waiting for Tester's next attack, finding herself thinking some very strange thoughts as she went to work.
Specifically, she found herself wishing that kansen were less selfless.
Every time she came on some ship who needed some patching up, she would insist that they were fine and that other ships needed help more than they did, and if she believed that every time she heard it she'd probably conclude that no kansen had taken any damage at all. So, to an outside observer, it might sometimes look like she was helping people against their will.
She wasn't interested in cultivating a friendlier bedside manner, after all- as far as she was concerned, it was enough for people to know that she was a doctor and that she was there to help.
Reno blinked as Jervis worked on her. "Honestly, you don't need to worry about me, I'll be fine as is."
Jervis looked Reno right in the eyes. "First, I'm a doctor, so I have to worry about you by definition. And second, no, you won't. Having holes in your rigging has dangers, even if the shots didn't strike anything vital. So, they have to go."
"Oh..." Reno blushed a little bit as she looked at Jervis work. "...You probably heard a line like that from a bunch of the other girls, too, huh?"
"I have." She shook her head a little as she worked. "...People think they're being a hero by wanting to sacrifice their health for others, but you have to stay healthy and take care of yourself if you're going to save anyone. It is much more productive to fight for others when you're healthy than if you're hurt, so it's best to keep an eye on yourself when you can."
"Mmm..." Reno responded at first, and then looked at Jervis, watching the confident, busty destroyer fix her up. "Jervis, so... You're not self-conscious about, um... those?"
Jervis continued working. "They don't interfere with what I do, so there's no reason to be."
Reno blushed, and looked to the side a bit. "I see..."
Jervis sighed. "...Reno. You are a healthy Kansen who has good habits. There is nothing wrong with your body."
Reno's blush turned a bit redder. "Oh... Thank you..."
"Thank me when I have succeeded." She continued her work. "Also, I'm only saying what I observe as a doctor, so there's no reason to get all flustered over something like that. And if you don't hear that sort of thing often, that's not your problem."
"Oh..."
Elsewhere, Akashi was working on Mainz, the ship wearing her usual kitty grin as she fixed up the cruiser. "Looks like that was pretty rough up there, nya. Won't be a problem, though, just hold still for a bit and there's nothing that Akashi can't fix~"
Mainz did exactly what Akashi said, the cruiser deciding not to interfere with the kitty's work. "I think you might have surprised some people. you were right there as soon as the fighting stopped."
"Well, where did you think I was going to be, nya?" She replied as she went on working. "It's not like I'm some submarine who can dive under the water and disappear."
Mainz hmmed. "I guess people assumed that you were going to just run off to the commander's ship and hide in there until the shooting stopped. People might think something like that since you don't exactly give off the impression of a fighting ship."
"All those anti-aircraft guns aren't just for decoration, nya." She went on working. "Also, the safer the rest of you are, the safe I am, isn't that right? You can't protect me too well if you've eaten too many bombs, so it's in Akashi's best interest to make sure you live."
