Dr. Aoste sighed, and pushed his glasses up on his nose. "You know, Purity, I shouldn't have to remind you that TB Zero is a groundbreaking achievement in networked artificial intelligence that will act as a hub for a wide variety of security and research applications. And so, I would like to not have to tell you to not pick her up whenever the whim strikes you."
Purity stuck her tongue out at the doctor before replying. "If you didn't want me to pick her up, then you shouldn't have made her so small and cute."
"And that's precisely why I want you to quickly finish going over the proposed specs for her extra equipment. She'll be far less portable once that is finished."
TB, who was sitting in Purity's arms, seemed mildly confused by her predicament, but did add something of her own. "It is imperative that you obey the doctor's commands. You also desire the fulfillment of achievement, correct?"
"I mean, yeah, I want credit but..." She looked at Dr. Aoste. "Did you put her up to this?"
Dr. Aoste shrugged. "I can't say so, however, even Artificial General Intelligences must have some limitations on their behavior until we truly understand the scope of their abilities. TB Zero and others based on her design lineage will follow my directives, at least for the time being. We can't be so irresponsible as to hand vast amounts of power to a newborn creation without hard restraints or control over how they deploy it. I don't find it scientifically sound to give a nuclear bomb to a toddler, for instance."
Purity giggled, and rubbed her cheek against TB's. "You hear that? The doctor thinks you're a baby, and as long as he does, I'm going to treat you like one, too."
TB closed one eye in response to the rubbing, even though she didn't have to. Dr. Aoste noted this learned response and its implications.
Dr. Aoste shook his head. "Please do not treat a global-scale Networked General Artificial Intelligence like a baby. I do want to know if you looked over the plans for the other constituent androids, Purity."
"I have!" She said. "And the first thing I have to say is this." She finally put TB back on her feet. "Do...Do you just have a thing for white-haired girls that I need to know about? You can tell me."
Dr. Aoste coughed, and pushed his glasses up on his nose. "I refuse to know what you're talking about. Anyway, I do desire your input- you seem to have a knack for this sort of thing, and against all calculated odds, you have become a valuable member of my staff."
Purity felt TB Zero tug on her sleeve. "Assistant Purity. Will you create equipment that drastically expands my current capabilities to the point that I can accomplish the doctor's directives?"
She looked down a little at the android. "All right, but aren't you forgetting the magic words I told you?"
TB didn't miss a beat. "Assistant Purity. Will you please create equipment that drastically expands my current capabilities to the point that I can accomplish the doctor's directives?"
"Haha, now you're cooking! I'm going to help build you some stuff so good, you'll never know how you lived without it!"
Dr. Aoste nodded. "The way you are now, Zero, is only the smallest part of the capability we have in store for you. Through the work of myself and Purity, you will become something that no one even imagined- A being that has the power and ability to save the world, if need be."
Purity chuckled. "Careful Doc, that weird science part of you is showing. Next thing you know you're going to want to do your science in a castle and hire a hunchback."
"Don't take me for someone who wishes to unleash monstrous abominations on the countryside to show them all." He crossed his arms, and smiled at TB. "Zero may start life as an international security apparatus, but eventually, she will exist for the good of all of humankind."
