The soft light of Malmö's sunrise filtered through the thin curtains of the hotel room, casting a warm, golden glow on the walls.I stretched in my bed, feeling the excitement building up in me as I realised how important this day would be. After years of studying journalism and working at local television, being able to be a part of something as big as Eurovision felt like a dream.
I quickly got up and started getting ready. When I was done, I still had an hour so I decided to have a small breakfast in the hotel cafeteria.
I grabbed all my essentials for work and made my way downstairs. I sat down by the window and waited for my food as I enjoyed the soft sunlight that streamed in. After a few minutes, I got my coffee along with a croissant.
When I was done, I quickly paid and left the hotel to head to the Malmö arena. It was just a short walk away from the hotel, already visible from the distance. As expected, I quickly arrived at the arena. I paused for a moment, taking in the excitement before stepping inside to begin my day.
Inside the Malmö arena, there was a whirlwind of activity. The energy was electric, even though Eurovision was still a few months away. Crews were buzzing around, setting up lights, testing sound equipment, arranging stages. People were speaking in a mix of languages, shouting instructions or chatting excitedly about plans. I could feel the pulse of creativity everywhere. Designers, journalists, technicians, producers... They were all working in a harmony to bring the event to life. It felt like watching a massive puzzle come together, piece by piece.
As I was enjoying the vibrant view in front of me, my boss, Mrs.Balke, spotted me and approached me. She arrived here this morning.
"Welcome, Mathilda! I'm so happy to see you here. Ready to get to work?"- Mrs.Balke said as she welcomed me warmly. "Absolutely, that's what I'm here for."- I smiled at her.
"Of course. Today, we will just be having different kinds of trainings and meetings to discuss everything and get used to the work ahead of us. Of course, you'll be vlogging everything for our media platforms as well."- Mrs.Balke explained to me. I nodded to show her my agreement.
"Come on, I'll show you our office room"- Mrs.Balke said as she gestured me to follow her.
I followed her as she led me down a hallway filled with the echo of distant preparations. Just when we passed the room for Sweden's representers, we stopped at the door next to it saying "Norway's press room".
We pushed the door open as it revealed a spacious, bright room filled with rows of desks, filled with different equipment such as screens and notepads. There were multiple large windows, each of them offering a view of the city.
"This is where we will be based"- Mrs.Balke said as she watched me carefully look around. "It's cozy"- I smiled at her. "You can unpack your belongings and settle in, you have an hour. At 10, we have a meeting with press crews from every country to discuss the basic plans for the upcoming month"- Mrs.Balke explained as she walked over to the door. "I'll leave you now, I'll be back at 9:50 so we can go to the meeting together. The arena's big and I don't want you to get lost before you learn your ways, I know your coordinating skills"- Mrs.Balke giggled as she walked out.
She's rights. I do have a difficulty with learning my way around big buildings, so it's better if we go to the meeting together.
Before I started doing anything, I filmed a small video, showing how the press room looked. It's for the vlog I have to post on our channel, of course. After that, I chose a desk next to the window and started arranging it in the way that would be comfortable for me.
