The next morning, I woke up with an odd mix of nervous excitement. The thought of spending the entire day with Martinus had me feeling both eager and cautious. We'd always been friendly, but after last night, I couldn't help but wonder if something was starting to shift between us.I looked over at my phone. I still had an hour until he got here. I took my time getting ready. I pulled out my favourite outfit- something casual, but cute enough to feel confident.
By the time clock struck 1, my heart was already racing. Just as I was about to check my phone to see if Martinus was running late, there was a knock on the door. I opened it to see him standing there, casually cool in a denim jacket, his signature smile lighting up his face.
"Ready?"- he asked, his eyes flicking over my outfit for a second before meeting mine. "Yes, let's go."- I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
As we left the hotel and stepped into the bustling streets of Malmö, Martinus took lead, effortlessly guiding me through the city. He pointed out details- his favourite café, a bookstore he loved...the spots that held memories from past visits.
"So, what's been your favourite part of today so far?"- Martinus said after a while. I thought for a moment, then smiled. "Honestly, just walking around and seeing the city. It's beautiful. Thanks for dragging me out. I didn't realise how much I needed this."- I glanced at him.
"No problem. I'm just glad I could show you around. It's better than being cooped up in the hotel, right?"- He gave me a sideways grin.
"Definitely."- I agreed, and then, without thinking, I added: "I'm glad it's with you".
There was a moment of silence as those words hung in the air. I suddenly felt exposed, like I'd said too much. When I dared to glance at Martinus, he wasn't laughing or teasing me. Instead, he was looking at me with an expression that made my heart skip a beat.
"I'm glad it's with you too."- He said softly.
We both fell quiet after that, but it wasn't awkward. Instead, it felt like something unspoken had settled between us, something we were both aware of but not ready to address.
As the afternoon wore on, we wandered into a park, where we found a quiet bench overlooking a small lake. We sat there for a while, talking about everything and nothing, the conversation flowing effortlessly.
"You know, I don't usually get to do this. Just relax, spend a day like this."- Martinus leaned back, stretching his arms behind his head as he looked up at the sky. "Yeah? What do you usually do on your day offs?"- I asked curiously.
"It's always something, you know? Work, interviews, events, playing football... even when I have free time, I'm usually thinking about the next thing. But today... today's different."- He answered.
"Different how?"- I asked, my heart pounding a little faster.
He turned to me, his gaze soft but intense. "Because I'm here with you".
I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could find the words, Martinus' phone buzzed. He sighed, glancing at the screen, then back at me with an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I have to take this. It's work."- He stood up, stepping away to take the call.
As I sat there waiting for him, I realised that today had been more than just a tour of Malmö. Something between Martinus and me had shifted and I wasn't sure what it meant or what would happen next. One thing was certain: I wasn't ready for this day to end just yet.
Soon enough, Martinus returned. "Sorry about that. Work stuff."- He said, slipping his phone back into his pocket. "No worries."- I replied.
As he sat back down, we both visibly wanted to go back to the conversation we were having, but I noticed two girls approaching us, giggling and whispering to each other.
