Chapter 6: Unanswered Calls and Unexpected Visitors

⫘⫘ No One's POV ⫘⫘

Day One

It had been just one day since Takemichi brought home the cats he had rescued. All of them were now settled in a large, previously unused room that used to be the second master bedroom. But that room had a new purpose now-it had become the cats' sanctuary.

Each cat was placed in a spacious, transparent enclosure, stacked neatly like a custom-built cabinet.

Every enclosure was well-ventilated, giving each cat its own area to rest and move around comfortably. Aside from the enclosures, the room was filled with all sorts of things a cat could need. Toys of every kind littered the floor-balls, feather wands, and tunnels to play in. A pile of unopened boxes of clothes lay against one wall, while newly assembled cabinets and drawers were packed with medicine, grooming supplies, and more toys.

The feeding area was set up just outside, connected to the kitchen. It was stocked with an impressive variety of expensive cat food, vitamins, and supplements, more than enough to keep the felines healthy and well-fed.

The shelves in the pantry were overflowing with different brands, flavors, and types of food, as if the house had turned into a pet store overnight.

It was clear that Takemichi had gone all out to ensure the cats would want for nothing. The house had transformed into a haven for the cats, resembling a luxurious pet boutique with how much care and thought went into every detail.

It was now Sunday morning, 8:16 AM to be exact. Takemichi and Rain had already finished their morning routines.

Rain was now in his room, likely taking a moment for himself, while Takemichi stood on the balcony, phone in hand, trying to make a call. His brow was furrowed in frustration, and he let out yet another sigh. It was the tenth time he had tried to reach someone, and every attempt had failed.

His mind was preoccupied with the cats, their health, and the responsibility he had taken on. As he gazed out into the morning sky, the weight of it all seemed to settle on his shoulders.

The soft meows of the cats could be heard in the distance, a gentle reminder of his new companions, and he knew that he had to stay focused, even though something else-someone else-was weighing heavily on his mind.

Out of frustration, Takemichi canceled the call, sighing in disappointment.

"Okay, okay, I get it..."
He muttered to himself, admitting defeat.

He tossed his phone onto the nearby coffee table before slumping down into the soft embrace of the couch.

Leaning back, he stared at the ceiling, his thoughts racing.
