Chapter 44

Sakusa stirred, still in a deep haze of slumber... The once warm bed felt cold. He grumbled when he stretched his leg, and his foot was met with the cool empty side of the mattress.

"Kaiya?" He grumbled, eyes still closed, and he began patting the space with his outstretched hand.

"Kaiya?"

Opening his eyes, he lifted his head from his pillow, looking at her side of the bed.

Empty...

Sakusa sat up, pinching the corner of his eyes, trying to wake himself up. Looking towards the bathroom door, he frowned. The lights weren't on... His eyes darted towards his clock

2:06AM glaring at him in bold red numbers

"Where on earth is she?" He asked himself.

Training was intense today so by the time he reached home, she had already fallen asleep. He didn't want to wake up her, so he quietly got ready for bed, slipping next to her, feeling her warm back press against his front, pulling him into a deep sleep. So it was weird waking up in an empty bed...

He heard thuds from the living room. making him push himself off the bed. Sakusa made his way out of the bedroom and sure enough, the dim light of the lamp shining through the hallway attracted him. He could hear her footsteps wandering around as he walked into the living room, where he spotted her wrapping a jacket around her pyjama clad body, boots on her feet as she rummaged through her handbag.

"Kaiya?" He asked and she gasped, looking at him like a deer in headlights

"O-Omi? You're awake? Was I being too loud?" She asked and he frowned, raising a brow.

"Where do you think you're going at 2 in the morning?" He asked and she froze, giving a sheepish laugh, rubbing the back of her neck

"I'm hungry... So I was going to the off license...." She muttered and he walked towards her. She bit her lip; he didn't seem very happy at this moment. Sakusa gave her look off annoyance

"We have food here..."

Kaiya's cheeks went red and she fiddled with her fingers. She looked like a kid who was about to get grounded, shuffling her foot, trying to be cute.

"I don't want that... I want chicken nuggets..." She mumbled and Sakusa sighed,

"I can order them for you"

Kaiya pouted, shaking her head

"No! I need the frozen ones from the off license! They have this specific brand I like! Go back to bed, I'll be back in 20 minutes, Omi! I promise!"

Sakusa looked at her in irritation, walking up to her

"How could you go out without telling me? Do you know how reckless that is?" He scolded her and she pouted,

"I didn't want to wake you up... I didn't think it was such a big deal..."

Sakusa lifted her chin, looking at her sad face, feeling bad

"It's not safe, Kaiya... The roads are slippery at this time of night..."

She felt her eyes water and her bottom lip shake and Sakusa cursed in his head when he heard her sniffling
