Fanfiction. The thing everyone loves and enjoys (maybe even secretly.) Writing it though? That's when it can get tricky.
[1] Don't Change a Character's Personality
Readers will get ticked off if you change a character, especially if it's their favorite character. If you change their personalities, at least let the readers know why you've done it o include a backstory to as why they've changed.[2] Bad Grammar
Something I've seen the most in fan fiction is really bad grammar. Like you're trying to write a story, so please make it to where we can read it. Of course, a few mistakes and spelling errors aren't going to hurt, even if there's those people out there who cannot seem to live life without telling you there's one teensy error. But at least try, it helps your readers out.[3] Disclaimers are Necessary
Guys, I don't think y'all understand the importance of this. You have to be really careful about how you go about writing it. You can't sell it for money that's illegal. So make sure you guys know that laws and use disclaimers.[4] Dedicate Yourself
I think this goes with every single type of writing, but people hate it when an author hasn't published a chapter in, oh I don't know, a year. I mean, the least you can do is change it to where it's a completed fanficiton, or at least tell your readers that you're not going to write in it anymore. But if you're thinking about writing a fanfiction, know everything, and write as much as you can.[5] Don't Expect to Become Famous
You know what? Scratch that. Don't expect anything. You'll just be disappointed it you do. Well... that's a bit harsh, you'll get more reads over time, so don't expect to become famous overnight.[6] Don't Write an Author's Note at the End of Every Chapter
Most people skip those, and if you read fan fiction you know what I'm talking about.
