Chapter 6: Starting From Zero
The flea market was always a place full of possibilities, a labyrinth of forgotten items waiting to be rediscovered by someone who could see their true value. But for Kaya, the flea market now also served as a reminder of the pain of betrayal he had recently experienced. Nevertheless, his determination to rise from his misfortune remained strong.
Days had passed since he was deceived, and Kaya didn't allow himself to drown in sorrow. He decided to return to the flea market, this time to a different part of the city, where he hoped he could start over from scratch. With the remnants of courage and his willingness to learn from his mistakes, Kaya wandered through the aisles with sharp eyes, searching for new opportunities.
While browsing through the second-hand goods, his attention was drawn to a small object resting on a seller's table. It was a small, weathered vase, adorned with delicate carvings around it. Kaya felt as if he had seen this vase somewhere before, but where? His mind flashed back to the ancient trade books he had read a while ago. One of the books had mentioned small vases like this-vases that were traded as valuable items in the past.
"This isn't just any vase," Kaya thought, examining it more closely. This was an antique of great value. The book had mentioned that vases like this, due to their rarity, could now be worth tens of thousands of dollars. His heart raced. He knew that if he could acquire this vase for a low price, it could be a turning point in his life.
But amidst his excitement, doubt began to creep in. Kaya stood there, staring at the vase, caught in a moral dilemma. "Should I buy it without telling the seller its true worth?" he wondered. "Wouldn't that be like stealing?" A part of him felt guilty, imagining how the seller might feel if they knew they had sold such a valuable item for far less than its worth.
On the other hand, his business instincts told him otherwise. "This is business," Kaya thought. "In the world of trade, not everyone knows the real value of what they sell. Maybe this is the chance I've been given to recover from my previous loss." Kaya felt an internal struggle between morality and business logic.
With trembling hands, Kaya took a deep breath and decided to ask the seller about the vase. But as he looked up and saw the seller's face, his heart nearly stopped. Standing before him was the very man who had deceived him days ago-the one who had taken all his money and goods.
Kaya felt his heart pound in his chest. Anger, confusion, and fear surged within him. How could this man be here? He wanted to scream, to demand everything that had been stolen from him, but he also knew that he had to stay calm. This was a crucial moment, and he had to think quickly.
The swindler didn't seem to recognize Kaya. Maybe because he met so many people daily, or perhaps because he never expected to run into one of his victims again. Kaya's hands began to sweat as he held the vase. He knew this was a golden opportunity, but it was also fraught with risk.
What should he do? Kaya asked himself. If he could buy this vase and slip away unnoticed, he could change his fate. But if the swindler recognized him, things could get much worse. The seconds felt like an eternity, and in the midst of his panic, he realized that he had to make a decision quickly.
