Chapter 19: An Unexpected Turning Point

The days passed quickly after Kaya completed the first project for RetroWave. Although it was a small project, Kaya felt increasingly confident in his abilities. However, behind that confidence, there were new challenges he had to face-balancing school with the growing demands of his work.

Kaya knew he couldn't neglect his education, but at the same time, he felt responsible for helping his family. Every morning, Kaya woke up earlier than usual to finish his school assignments before heading to school. At night, after school and caring for his father, he made time to work on his game projects. "This isn't easy," he thought, "but I have to succeed, for myself and for my family."

At school, the pressure began to weigh on Kaya. His usually high grades started to slip because of the study time he had to sacrifice for work. Some of the teachers began to notice this change. One day, after class, Kaya's English teacher, Ms. Wulan, called him in to talk. "Kaya, I've noticed that your grades have been slipping a bit lately," Ms. Wulan said gently. "Is something bothering you?"

Kaya felt nervous, but he knew he couldn't keep hiding the struggles he was facing. "Ma'am, I have to work to help my family," Kaya answered honestly. "My father is still sick, and we need the money. I know it's affecting my studies, but I don't have any other choice."

Ms. Wulan nodded understandingly. "I understand, Kaya. Life can be unfair sometimes, but I want you to know that we're here to support you. If you need help balancing school and work, we'll do our best to help."** Kaya felt relieved hearing her words. "Thank you, Ma'am," he said sincerely. "I'll try harder not to let you down."

Meanwhile, at home, his mother also began to worry about how busy Kaya had become. "Kaya, you're still too young to carry all this burden," she said with concern. "I don't want you to be overwhelmed." But after seeing how determined Kaya was, she finally supported his decision. "I know it's not easy, but I'm proud of you," she said, hugging Kaya. "But please, don't forget to take care of yourself."

Amid all this pressure, RetroWave sent a new message with good news. "Kaya, I have some good news," RetroWave wrote. "Our small project has caught the attention of some people in the indie game community. They're interested in the level design you created, and I think this could open up more opportunities for you." Kaya was surprised and excited to hear this. "This is the opportunity I've been waiting for," he thought with hope.

In the following days, RetroWave introduced Kaya to some people from the indie game community. They were developers and designers who had been in the industry for a long time. Although Kaya initially felt nervous, he tried to stay calm and show his best work. "Kaya, your work is very impressive," one of the designers said. "We'd love to see more from you. How about joining us on our next project?"

Kaya could hardly believe what he was hearing. "This is a big opportunity," he thought. However, behind his excitement, he also felt a bit afraid. "Am I really ready for this? What if I fail?"** Those questions began to arise in his mind. But Kaya knew he couldn't let fear stop him. "This is an opportunity I can't waste," he thought. "I have to do it."

That night, after talking to RetroWave, Kaya decided to accept the offer. "I'll join your project," he said confidently. "I'm ready for this new challenge." With renewed enthusiasm, Kaya began working with the new team, learning many new things every day. This project was much bigger than anything he had worked on before, but he felt challenged and even more motivated.

As time went on, Kaya began to realize how valuable this experience was. He wasn't just learning about the technical aspects of game development, but also about how to work in a team, communicate with colleagues, and solve challenges together. Every day was a new opportunity to learn and grow, and Kaya increasingly felt that he was on the right path.

However, amidst all the busyness, Kaya didn't forget his responsibility to his family. He continued to look for ways to help his mother and ensure that his father received the necessary care. Although the income from these game projects wasn't large, Kaya managed to save a little money bit by bit to help his family get by. "Every dollar I earn," he thought, "is proof that hard work and perseverance always pay off."

One sunny afternoon, while Kaya was walking home from the market, he received a call from RetroWave. "Kaya, there's something you need to know," RetroWave's voice sounded serious. "One of the major developers in our community has seen our work and is very interested. They want to meet with you to discuss a potential collaboration."** Kaya almost stopped in his tracks upon hearing the news. "This is the opportunity that could change everything," he thought, his heart pounding.

The next day, Kaya met with the developer in question. The meeting went well, and the developer was impressed by Kaya's vision and enthusiasm. "We see great potential in you," they said. "We'd like you to join our team for a bigger, more ambitious project." Kaya felt like he was dreaming. "This is the turning point I've always dreamed of," he thought with hope.

That night, after returning home, Kaya reflected on everything that had happened. From a boy who had almost lost everything, he now stood on the brink of great success. "I've been through so much, but every challenge has made me stronger,"** he thought. He knew that the journey was still long, but he also knew that he was no longer walking alone. With the support of RetroWave, his family, and the people who believed in him, Kaya felt ready to face whatever lay ahead.

With a heart full of hope, Kaya looked toward the future. "This is just the beginning," he thought with a smile on his face. "I'll keep moving forward, and I know that a bright future awaits at the end of this road."
