(Lucas’s P.O.V.)
I groan, waking up feeling a lot of pain around my body. I sit up and look around. I notice a fire; I smile to myself. Then I look around, and my gaze turns on two people who are sitting down. One is a girl with wavey mid length ebony blue hair in a high ponytail with bangs. She has light tan skin, freckles, and ocean blue eyes. She had some scars over her body. She was wearing clothes with rips through them. She was wearing a t-shirt with a tree on it and words above the tree saying, “the paths we choose are like tree branches, some with dead ends and some with finish lines”. She was also wearing brown jeans on with a brown bag over her body and blue sneakers. The other was a boy, he had short, messy chestnut brown hair, his eyes were a bright forest green, he had a few freckles on his checks, and he also had light skin with little tan. I can see he had scars all over the back of his hands they didn’t feel fresh like his other scars. He was wearing clothes with rips through them. He was wearing a green shirt with a tree swaying in the wind, he was also wearing short blue jeans and black shoes. I start to wonder whether I should trust them or not, what if they are here to kill me like they did to my aunt and uncle. Or take me as their hostage like they did to my sister? But they do seem familiar? Almost as if I know them.“Who are you people? Are you here to kill me like you killed “my parents”, or take me as your hostage like you did to my sister?” I ask, afraid standing up, grabbing a sharp piece of glass next to me, to defend myself.
I didn’t want other people knowing that my parents weren’t my real parents. Especially if they can’t be trusted.
“No, but who did kill your parents and who took your sister?” the boy asks.
“I don’t remember, but it was someone who was controlling the plants. They obey him,” I say sadly, looking down in guilt.
I promised my sister and my real parents that I would protect her, but I failed, I failed her, I failed my parents, and I failed everyone.
“We are not here to hurt you, now calm down, or your wounds won’t heal,” the girl says.
I look down and see my wounds bandaged, my eyes widen, maybe I can trust these people.
“You did this?” I ask, stunned.
“Yes, I fixed your wounds, now please calm down, or they won’t heal” the girl replies.
I smile a little less cautiously. I put down the glass, sitting down.
“What are your names?” I ask them.
“Um... my name is Sam, and th-this is Hailey, my best friend,” the boy says, pointing to himself and the girl.
Hailey waves, and Sam smiles, I smile back.
“My name is Lucas as far as I remember,” I say to them.
“We know,” Hailey says.
My eyes widen. How do they know my name. I see Sam facepalm himself.
“Wait How do you know my name?” I ask.
I reach for the glass again.
“It’s ok, here this will explain everything,” Hailey says, passing me a letter.
I read it, by the look of it. It was a letter to herself, about nature taking over, well duh and about us being friends? Once I am done, I pass it back to her, and she puts it in her bag.
“So, before this whole nature thing happened, we were friends?” I ask, confused.
“Yea, but we don’t remember, and obviously you don’t either,” Sam says.
I shake my head.
