The next day...
"You ready Munchkin..." Zac asked Iyonna, bouncing her gently in his arms, pridefully.
Iyonna giggles, "Mama..." "Yup. We're picking up Mama." He told her.
"You asking Iyonna if she's ready, Peanut are YOU ready?" "Big Ma." Zac mumbles, "I was made for this...For her..." he said with a gleaming smile.
"She's home for me." He confessed, thinking back, "I used to think Ivyonna was the love of my life but I see that our love was just a stepping stone for that to produce a different kind of love." He said smiling at his baby girl, then kissing her cheek.
Fatima could've came home at a better time, Iyonna's birthday is tomorrow and she still hadn't walked yet, even though Zac and Big Ma had been practicing for the past month.
After many failed attempts they just chalked it up and decided to wait until Iyonna was ready, however today was special, Zac could feel it in his heart.
It was something about the conversation he and Fatima had the other day when she called home crying about her dream job being a bust, that let him know everything was aligned to this moment.
Even when they were together 2 weeks ago, the awkwardness of the conversation didn't sit right with them because...
"Good Morning Mamas..." Zac said, coming into the kitchen behind Fatima as he kissed her on the neck.
Sadly Fatima didn't receive the gesture like she normally does, which raised a red flag for Zac because he's not used to the rejection.
"You good?!" "I'm fine." "Come on Ti, don't do that..." "I'm not doing anything. When does your flight leave?" She asked coldly.
Taken aback by the sudden comment considering the night of love making, Zac is flabbergasted. "WOW..." he utters. "So instead of communicating what's bothering you, you're just gonna shut me out?"
"I'm not shutting you out. But I'm definitely thinking about how I want to move forward..." she says.
Zac gives her a furrowed brow. "Move forward where and why?" "Zac..." "No," he interrupted. "We've been good this whole time. And now "all of a sudden" you're ready to move forward. Move forward where Fatima. From us?!?!" He asked as his voice got slightly higher in tone.
"Because if that's wha' you thinking. I ain't wit it. We've been together for 8 months and I'm not about to just up and leave over something that can be resolved with just a simple conversation...." He scoffed, "Shit. Iyonna calls you "Mama", so if you think Ima just let just walk out of her life or it's cool to be bouncing.."
"I'm not walking out of Yana's life Zac.." "So what is you talking Fatima?" He asked frustratedly. "Because again. We're supposed to be each others safe space. We're supposed to be able to have those uncomfortable conversations so that we can work through them together..."
"You talk in your sleep." She confessed midway through his sentence. "Did you know that?" "No." "After we had sex, we changed the sheets, took a shower, got back into bed, and fell asleep in each other's arms," she told him, trying not to blink so the tears that formed in her eyes wouldn't fall.
"You held me a little tighter," "So what's the problem?" "The problem is you weren't holding me!!" She shouted with emphasis.
"Fatima." "Zac, you weren't holding me last night you were holding Ivyonna. And I know that because you were talking to her, making love TO her in your sleep." She spoke as her voice cracked.
Zac slumps a little because he indeed was having a dream about Ivyonna but he had no recollection whatsoever of what he said or did within the moment...
