1 month later...
8:19 PM"Whatever..." Fatima mumbles throwing her phone across the bed. "Now what am I supposed to do?" she asked herself, folding her arms across her chest in a bath towel.
She was getting ready for a date with Zac, however he cancelled AGAIN saying that Iyonna and his grandmother was sick and didn't want to leave them.
After their date at the park, they've barely been able to catch up with each other besides the occasional phone conversations and text messages.
She been making plans for them to have a breakfast date but Zac's shift at the airport suddenly changed when he got promoted to an aircraft fueler. Which meant his schedule suddenly changed from mid-nights to days. Fatima was trying her best to be understanding but after a month of no physical contact beside what they had at the park, she was ready to burst...
Ding Dong...
"The fuck!!!" she mumbled to herself, knowing full well she didn't order anything and noone told her they were coming over so..
"Who is it?!" she asked, yelling from her bedroom. "It's yo man..." "My MAN?!" she asked with a puzzled look on her face.
She goes back to her room to her safe to get the gun her father gifted to her before she moved to Atlanta. "I got time today..." she utters to herself putting the clip in, then the silencer on the barrel.
BANG, BANG, BANG... "FATIMA!!!" "Awe hell naw..." as she quickly put on her robe, then headed to the door.
She swings it open pointing the gun... "REALLY!?!?!" "Muthafucka!!" as she quickly closed the door back, but the guy on the other end tried to barge in.
"DONOVAN STOP!!!" "Fatima, just let me talk to you!!!" he struggled, tried to keep her from closing the door.
After a while he started to get leverage. Fatima took the gun aiming it at his foot that was in the house. Along with his knee and half his torso...
PHFF, PHFF... "AHHHH FUCK!!!" Donovan cries, falling to the ground in pain holding the blood seeping from his shoe.
Fatima quickly closes the door locking it.
Jolting to her room, she grabs her phone from the bed dialing 9-1-1.
"9-1-1, what's your emergency?" "Yes.." she said shakingly. "I need the police...My ex-boyfriend tried to break into my house." "Are you in a safe place right now ma'am? Is he still there..." "I..I don't know I shot him..." She told the operator cautiously.
"Is he dead?" "No I can hear him outside my front door still screaming about his foot." "Ok, Ma'am what's your address? The police and the ambulance are on the way."
Fatima recites her address to the operator as she says, "They're just 2 minutes away ma'am, please place the weapon in a safe spot..." "Ok..." Fatima murmurs, sniffling with tears in her eyes.
By the time the police got there, Donovan was gone however they took the blood from her front door and confiscated her gun for evidence, while taking her statement then leaving her to "lock up".
"AWE HELL NAW!!!" Mia yells through the phone, jumping up from her bed. "I'm buying my plane ticket right now Ti. I'll be there in the morning..." "What about the kids?" she sobbed, "I'll have my mom to watch them because ain't no way..." she retorted taking the phone from her ear texting her mother and Nicohlas. "And I'm fucking Riley's ass up for this shit. Like why would she give your fucking address away knowing that nigga is crazy..." "Exactly. Like I don't even want to be here anymore..." "You mean your apartment or Atlanta?" "Both!!! I feel violated in my own home Mi.."
"Fatima. Don't do that..." "Why not?!" she sobbed, "No matter what I do. Donovan won't stop..." she voiced shakingly through her tears.
"I've changed my number, moved more times than I would ever like to do so, which is fucking up my money..." "But you're life in Atlanta has been good up until this point. Don't let that nigga stop you from living Ti and the next time he comes for you, shoot his ass in the head. I keep telling you, you're too nice when it comes to him."
Fatima shakes her head. "I'm scared to leave..." "Don't be..." Mia encouraged. "They took my gun..." "Ok, what about the bat that Nicholas gave you or the taser I gave you..." "I still have those." "Ok. Take that shit and RUN to the nearest hotel..." she told her. "Like I said let me get the kids settled and let Nicholas know I'm leaving. I'm coming to be with you until we figure this out, ok..." "Ok..." Fatima replied, knowing her bestie all too well.
No matter what life brought them, Mia was always there for Fatima and Fatima was always there for Mia. They met Riley in college but never could understand why they called her a friend. Although after a while, Mia fell off from hanging with her but Fatima didn't. Now she wished she had...
"RILEY, why would you give him my fucking address?" "Fatima, I didn't give him anything. Dorian and I got into an argument and he took my phone..." "Whatever..." "Oh so it's like that..." "Hell yeah! That nigga almost barged into my house Riley, ain't no telling what he was going to do to me."
"Fatima, I'm sorry." "Whatever Riley. Lose my number because I swear you steady being reckless and I can't even..." "So 11 years of friendship just down the drain..." "Bitch, we're almost 30. Don't nobody have time for the shit you're on Riley. You can stay with Dorian all you want and that's yo business. But when it comes to me and mine, stay the fuck out my shit respectfully. I don't want to be with Donovan. LIKE AT ALL and the fact you playing these types of games..." "I told you..." "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you didn't give out my number but I also know you're omitting information, so yeah. Don't fucking call me and the next time I see you. BITCH IT'S ON SIGHT!!!" as Fatima aggressively hung up the phone. Throwing it to the side of her bed.
She's still shaking from the gist of it all, looking around her room feeling completely uncomfortable. She grabs her phone again, sending a text message..
Fatima:
Hey Zac, are you awake?Zac:
Yup, what's up Mamas. You good?!Fatima:
No, and I know you said your grandmother
and daughter were sick butZac is waiting for her response considering he seen the three bubbles populate then disappear..
Zac incoming call...
"Hey." Fatima answered on the first ring.
"What's wrong?" He asked sensing her energy was off.
"My ex came by my apartment and tried to barge his way in..." "I'm on my way..." "What? NO!!" "Fatima..." "Zac, your daughter and your grandmother are sick. You can't leave the house."
"Shit! Ok. Come here then." He suggested.
"Zac," "Fatima, I'm not going to sleep right worrying about you and quite frankly you texted me for a reason, so you either come over here or I come and get you and bring you back here..."
"I don't want to get sick..." "And you won't unless you can't refrain yourself for snuzzling on Iyonna." he laughed.
"She is adorable." Fatima admitted with a smile. Thinking of how she changed her screen saver to a picture of Iyonna.
After her picnic date with them, she couldn't help herself. She loved everything about Zac's daughter.
Even though it took Iyonna a while to get used to Fatima, she eventually let up after a few FaceTime calls that Iyonna refused to be ignored from.
"Ok, I'll come over." she says, "Just let me pack a bag and get my work bag." "I'll send a ride share for you..." "Zac..." "Nope because if he was bold enough to show up at your apartment there is no telling what that nigga did to your car. Text me your address and I'll send a ride share for you because I dare a muthafucka try that shit over here..." he voiced, "Big Ma may be up in years but her bullets sure aren't and I for damn sure ain't about to let him hurt you..."
Fatima sighed a chuckle in defeat... "Ok."
"Cool. See you in a minute Mamas."
"See you in a few."
