The Assessment was created by Horace Hotchkiss in 1849. At the time Hotchkiss had been appointed the first advisor of the Clinkirk Compound.

Once the Clinkirk Compound was built, the need arose to determine a logical and efficient way to decide where each new arrival would best be situated. Mr. Hotchkiss suggested a series of stations, one for each section of the Clinkirk Compound.

Each station was assigned a time limit in which the participant should be able to complete the task within, additionally they would be observed by the head of section for each station. This easily weeded out which participants were not suited for certain sections. Once the participant has completed all ten stations (or five as it were when the assessment was first initiated) they are then led to the Fragola Room to await their placement. The head of section for the section they have been selected would deliver the news along with the Selection Master. They would then be provided with their pin and identification bracelet which include the following:

The Workshop: Bracelet Navy Blue - PIN: Hammer

The Glass House: Bracelet Gold - PIN: Vase

Transportation: Bracelet Forest Green - PIN: Trolley Car

Disaster Control: Bracelet: Blood Red - PIN: Lightning Bolt

Modern Technology Guru's: Bracelet Plum Purple - PIN: Computer

Labels and Processing: Bracelet Tangerine - PIN: Cardboard Box

The Loom: Bracelet Bubble Gum Pink - PIN: Thimble

The Food Depository: Bracelet Turquoise - PIN: Cornucopia

Sanitation: Bracelet Chocolate Brown - PIN: Broom

The Mud Room: Bracelet Snow White - PIN: Sock

Each new member is given a list of responsibilities and duties. The assessment is performed on the first of every month and includes those deported from Stormy Shore and those of the Clinkirk Compound that have reached the age of ten.

If the participant is ten, they are released for the remainder of the day. If recently deported once all participants are selected, they are then given a tour of the compound led by the current advisor of the Clinkirk Compound. The only exception is those that have been orphaned and must immediately report to the Clinkirk Compound. These individuals, depending on age, will either attend Dot's Darling's or the Lesson Book until the next assessment is held.
