Deportation was first initiated in 1874 when Luca Rafanoli decided Stormy Shore was becoming overpopulated.

Deportation occurs every ninety days for a total of four times a year. It is always on the last day of that month at sunset on Lincoln Ford Beach. This is where the residents of Stormy Shore gather alphabetically to find out what randomly unlucky family will be chosen to go work in the Clinkirk Compound.

Once that tragic family has been picked, they have until dawn to pack their things and say their good-byes. They will then be escorted by Ra Ra Guards to the South entrance of the Clinkirk Compound which has always been reserved for new arrivals.

First, they pass through Sunrise Court but before they may complete the assessment (which includes all those over the age of ten) each new deportee must report to the Trinity Clinic for a routine exam. If given a bill of clean health, they may proceed to the assessment. If not, they are sent to room four hundred and twenty-eight, though it is rare that this happens. Once pronounced healthy the new deportees are then taken to the Selection Chambers where they will complete the stations devised to select new arrivals.

After being successfully selected for a section (and provided with their identification bracelets and pins) the family is then taken to their new quarters following which they are provided a short tour by the Clinkirk Compound advisor and informed they are expected for duty at 7 a.m. The children should be dropped off at Dot's Darlings if under five and taken to the Lesson Book if older.

A pamphlet of rules is found inside on the table along with a map of the compound and a warning, "Do not think living underground is what you have to fear the most; it's the consequences of escape that should choke the breath from your lungs."
