Rookie Chandler
I did as I was told and booked it. There was no way I was risking staying behind while this shit-storm was happening right behind me. Will was hot on my tail, as well. Running just as fast if not faster. We were running until our lungs gave out.
By the end of our run we were both beat. I could hear sirens going off in the distance. Will groaned as they sounded pretty close by, but neither of us were anywhere close to being prepared for running again.
At least I wasn't.
I'm sure Will does this all the time.
"How's it going little C?" He asks me as he's huffing and puffing, trying to catch his breath. "I...I think I need...a...break." I told him. By the time we were both fully energized the sirens were mere inches away from us. "Ready for round two?" He asks and my eyes widened. "Again?! Uh, okay?" I say but it comes out a question. God, how can anyone do this?!
I internally give props to Will."Okay then, come on!" He grabs my arm and basically drags me until I find the urge to steady myself and run with him without being dragged. It takes a few moments but eventually I caught my own pace and book it alongside Will as he lets go of his grip on my arm.
That man's grip is like steel.
"Over here!" He whispers loud enough for me to hear. He points to a narrow pathway that leads to a Church.
Quite the choice of hideout, considering what's happening and why it's happening.
"Can you jump?"
"What?!" I gasp at his sudden question.
"Can you jump, little C?" He asks again.
"Yes, or do you mean, like, high distances?" I ask him. I already feel my nerves shot from the question. "Uh. I suppose I can?" Again, came out as a question rather than an answer. "Okay. Jump!"
Before I can even ask or answer what the hell he's talking about, a hill right below us travels down to a dock...except the water is missing from its designated spot. "Are you fucking crazy?! I'll die! I'm not like you!" I screamed at him. Big mistake probably. "Then learn!" He doesn't give me time to answer before he pulls me down the hill. Both of us end up tumbling down, getting covered in dirt and sticks and all of the earths lovely objects on the way.
I regret existing.
"Now is when you jump!" He shouts as all I can hear is the wind in my ears. Without thinking, or looking, I jump off the dock, hand in hand with Will.
Holy fuck, I'm holding hands with Will Vinny!
Pull yourself together, Rook. He's just doing this so you don't get stranded from him.
I hold my breath, expecting water but there is none, and land in a mud pile instead. I groan as I hear something crack and then a brutal scream escalates through my body as a stinging pain rushes through my leg.
"Shit! Are you okay?" Will asks me. Concern laced in his tone. I look at him and all I can see is worry in those beautiful eyes of his. No words manage to come out, probably making me look like a fool.
"Hey? Can you hear me?" Yes, Will. I hear your wonderful voice.
"Ahem, uh, yeah! I-I'm f-fine. Just a li-little hurt," I say, clutching onto my knee. Meanwhile my whole leg is aching in stinging pain.
"Think you need a Doctor, Rooks."
And then I pass out.
