Trigger warning for child loss and still birth

Stan tore through the journal Ford left behind there had to be something to help him. Tucked inside is a note in curly cursive.

My dear Ford,
I love you but I cannot keep doing this, he almost killed me last night.
I know it wasn't you but I can't get that image out of my head, your
yellow eyes with that knife in your hand. I was going to die, you would've
woken up with my blood on your hands. I need to forget this, forget him
he haunts my dreams I can't be rid of him. I'm going to find Fiddleford,
he can help me forget. I'll be around if you want to try again, but without
him.
Dolores

He didn't know anyone named Dolores, she must be a college friend of Ford's a good one apparently. He found her in the yellow pages, 10 minutes away.

A gentle knock on the door later he stood face to face with a strawberry blonde woman similar in age to him, she had deep bags under her eyes and creases in her face from sleepless nights. She scowled as soon as she saw him, pulling a futuristic looking gun from her waistband and holding it at her hip like a cowboy would in the movies.

"Your eyes Ford, let me see them." She didn't know why she needed to see them but she knew on instinct they may be wrong, altered

"Ford? No I'm-" She gestured with the gun and he removed his sunglasses and hood, she tucked the gun back reassured

She looked at him closely before stepping back, her eyes were tear streaked "You're Stan. Did Ford send you? I don't want to see him."

"No I need your help, he got sucked into the portal. It's my fault, I need to get him out."

She ushered him inside before checking and closing the door.

"From the start." Her hands crossed over her chest

"Ford sent me a letter asking me to meet him. I went and we got in a fight and he got pushed into the portal." Dolly didn't know what portal he was talking about but just knew Ford was in trouble

"I got a letter too, I thought he had heard and wanted to- It wasn't what I expected it to be and I didn't need whatever was going on with him on my plate too." He sat down in her yellow floral chair wincing "Are you ok?"

"Yeah it's fine don't worry." He hissed rubbing his shoulder

"Let me see." He obeyed getting up and showing his shoulder

There was a hastily placed bandage covering it, she sat him on the couch, sitting behind him and peeling the bandage off. He cried out in pain as some skin came along with it. She cringed a crude marking burnt into the skin, blisters beginning to form.

"How did you get this?" She asked placing the used bandage to the side table

"I got burnt on some equipment in the fight."

"I'll be back." Stan looked around, there was diapers and various baby items strewn around along with bottles of wine and used tissues. She brought back a washcloth soaked in water and began to treat the wound "It'll be over soon."

"Thank you for doing this for me Dolores."

"It's ok, keep telling me what happened." He continued on as she placed the bandage "There, all done. Be careful with that shoulder it'll leave a nasty scar."

"I've got plenty." He pulled his shirt back up "I need you to help me bring him back."

"I have no clue what portal you're talking about but even if I did, I'm dealing with too much at the moment. I need time." She looked over to the fireplace, a small urn with flowers adorning it sitting on top with a polaroid resting on a vase of marigolds
