Chapter 10

Imogen

I hate watching these fights at the pit. The girls love it, but the violence bothers me. I'm no stranger to violence or fighting, but the fact that there is so much tension right now amongst the Wolves and the Knights, and yet they still do this is worrying to say the least. There aren't rules in the pit, which worries me. What if someone tried something?

Zane is fighting Anton and Aleks is fighting Gabe.

I watch nervously as Zane and Anton fight first. They're both goading each other on, relentlessly. Zane finally finishes the fight, taking Anton out. Which only makes Anton crazier.

"Yeah, and maybe I'll mark up your body the way your brother marked up Rory Farrell's!" Anton shouts out loudly.

The room becomes full of tension.

Rory.

My heart stutters.

It's no secret they all think Aleks did it. It still isn't off the table for me. I haven't been able to eliminate Aleks, but I haven't been able to prove it either. Outside of the symbols on his body, there is no true proof that Aleks did it.

Anton is determined to start his smear campaign though.

He and Zane get into it again. It's only when Aleks pulls a rageful Zane away that the madness ends.

I'm too nervous, but I hardly have time to recover before Aleks is fighting Gabe.

I dig my fingernails into the palm of my hand, muttering under my breath. Watching Aleks fight Gabe is not something I prefer.

I don't like seeing him like that...

Although, I must admit he's a good fighter. He's smart, cunning, quick, calculating.

Gabe tries to bait Aleks with similar taunts that Anton lobbed at Zane. Unlike Zane, Aleks is unbothered. In fact, he uses it to his advantage and manages to trap Gabe in a corner, overtaking him easily.

The fight isn't short, but Aleks is the clear winner at the end of it.

I stare in a bit of awe as the ref holds Aleks' wrist up as the winner. I try not to stare at his sweaty, ripped torso, at the way the sheen of sweat covers his skin and makes his tattoos appear sharper.

My eyes land on the Juliet Rose in the center of his chest.

My breath catches as I reluctantly cheer.

And maybe it's in my head, but I swear, Aleks looks right at me before turning away towards the locker room.

The after party is wild, as usual. Sophie, Eva, and Ariana are dancing in the ring at one point, drunk and singing, acting their usual bubbly and carefree selves. I'm standing with Tate, Chase, Josh, and the others when Aleks comes over. Zane cheers for his brother, shaking his shoulders excitedly.

Aleks stands behind me and although he's in a separate conversation, I can feel his presence in a way that is so overwhelming that I almost miss Anton Gallo approaching Sophie, Eva, and Ari.

He's clearly drunk and clearly bothering them. After stories Jemma and Wes told me about him, there's no way I'm letting my cousins or Eva near him. I tell Tate I'll take care of it and storm over to them.
