Chapter 12

Aleks

It's parents' weekend which means I have to put on my best face in front of not only my parents, but the Yenins, Morettis, Callahans, and Donnellys as well. As future Pakhan of the Russian Bratva, there are certain expectations. Family events aren't just fun gatherings, they're a reason for us to all come together to discuss business.

Which is all somewhat distracting when Imogen Donnelly is near.

We're currently at the Wolves mansion with all the parents. After an emotional reunion between Chase and his parents earlier, everyone is a bit more at ease at the mansion. Most of the moms are chatting together, going through our liquor cabinet like it's no one's business and putting on absolutely horrific music.

The rest of us are chatting, but what catches my attention is that Imogen, Eva, Sophie, Ariana, Tate, and Hannah are sitting together talking seriously, their heads close together as they whisper in hushed tones.

They're fucking up to something.

"What's that all about?" I ask, nodding towards them.

Josh looks between me and their little group.

"Hell if I know."

"Ah, how easy it is for Ariana Donnelly to get information out of you...and yet, you have absolutely no way of getting a damn peep out of her," I chastise. Josh gives me a blank look.

"I already explained."

"You haven't explained a damn thing. And I've given up caring. But word to the wise, Cal?" I ask, turning to him. "Figure that shit out. And fast. Because you'll lose her if you keep acting like a god damn fool."

Josh frowns. "I'm not acting like a fool."

"You keep flaunting other girls in front of her, and she'll never forgive you."

Josh grumbles under his breath with annoyance, but doesn't fight me back on it.

"Owen," I call Josh's cousin over quietly. Owen Rutger is often dismissed as a drunken fool, but I know the truth of him. Owen is a good person, he's personable, people like talking to him. He's somewhat of a loose cannon on the best day, but if there is one thing I can rely on him being it's friendly. He can get information faster than most people I know.

"What's up, boss man?" Owen grins, clapping a hand on my shoulder.

"Find out what they're up to."

He follows my line of sight to the girls sitting there.

"Aw, man you're sending me into the fucking lion's den!" Owen cries out in frustration. I give him another blank look. "Fine, fine. I'll see what I can do."

Owen saunters off, putting on his best show for the girls. I watch, mildly entertained, as they quickly pull apart. Owen flops down between them, throwing an arm around both Ariana and Tate.

Imogen slips away and I watch with interest as she goes straight to her father. Sean Donnelly is talking with Damien Yenin and my father. I watch as Sean's demeanor shifts drastically when his only daughter approaches. A small smile comes over his face as he puts his arm around her. It's clear that Imogen is close to her parents.

A knot forms in my chest that she's most likely had to hide Rory from them, too.

I find myself walking towards Imogen, Sean, Damien, and Dad.
