Chapter 25

Imogen

When I get back to the room, I hear the shower running.

I step into the bathroom wordlessly and gasp a bit when I see the tub full of sudsy water, along with a few lit candles.

Aleks is in the shower, surely rinsing off the rest of the dirt and blood.

I watch him through the frosted glass.

I watch as he tenses at my approach.

He turns the water off.

"You okay?" he asks.

"I could ask you the same," I call out.

"I ran a bath for you."

"Thank you," I say quietly.

"You're welcome."

I wince as I peel off the wet, now fully uncomfortably gold fabric of my dress, letting it pool at my feet along with my panties. I step carefully into the tub, one foot at a time.

I flinch at the heat, but as I sink into it, I realize how blissfully welcoming it is.

The tub is huge. It's more like a small pool, or a very large hot tub. The candles smell lovely. The fact that he even thought to light them for me makes me smile. I dip my head under the hot water, scrubbing the day away before resurfacing.

When I open my eyes, Aleks is climbing out of the shower, tying a towel around his hips.

He looks like a fucking god standing there.

Wicked. Cruel. Vicious.

And completely mine.

"How is it?" he asks.

I'm wearing my contacts tonight so I can see the way his throat bobs, even from this distance.

"Lonely," I breathe.

His jaw tenses, working again.

"Join me?" I ask.

Aleks closes the bathroom door, turning the lock. I sink further down till the water hits my chin. I sit on one side of the tub and watch in admiration as Aleks lets go of the towel and climbs in, his impressive body on full display.

All those tattoos.

The muscles.

Those hands.

He sits on the opposite side from me, splaying his arms out over the sides.

"Nice, right?" I ask quietly.

"Very."

We sit in silence for a long few moments, just staring at one another.

"You did well tonight," he tells me.

"Aleks."

"Hmm?"

"Tell me what's wrong. Tell me why you stormed off when we got back."

His jaw tightens again. I see the way he heaves his chest and I know he's fighting some sort of panicked feeling.
