Defending My Honor
The next day, Cherry got ready with a new determination. She knew that there was a chance that she may panic again, but that was okay. She was going to attempt to face her fear and get the data that Javi and Scott needed.
She switched up her outfit a little today. She put on a black floral sundress with small flowers on it and paired it with her red cowboy boots. She missed wearing them. She wasn't allowed to wear them with James. He despised cowboy boots, so he forbid her to wear them. At least she convinced him not to throw them away. It was one of the first things she packed when she left. She remembered the first time she put them on. She sat there on the living room floor and cried for an hour, finally feeling like she had gotten a part of herself back. She wore them occasionally in Chicago, but she would often get weird looks when she wore them.
She met up with Javi and Scott, who were looking over the tablet as they tried to find a storm. Both of them were coming up short, so they were waiting on Cherry to direct them. Once she had her attention down on the tablet, Scott let his eyes roam her small figure. Her dress fell to her upper thigh, showing off her long legs. The thin straps show her slim shoulders and chest. Even though Scott was wearing sunglasses, Javi was painfully aware that he was yet again checking out his best friend.
"Enjoying the view, Scott?"
Cherry looked up at Javi's question. Javi was laughing at Scott, who was now glaring at him. She furrowed her eyes in confusion before looking back down at the tablet. There were two storms on the tablet, but with less than ideal readings. She wasn't sure if either one would give them a storm, but they were close enough together that they could check them out up close.
Once she told Javi this, he relayed the information back to the group. Cherry didn't waist anytime, walking over to the store again to grab a snack from the gas station. After she had grabbed something for Javi, she grabbed a bag of candy and walked over to the drink section. She picked up a cherry cola before closing the door.
"No slushy this time?"
Cherry smiled as Scott walked up to her. "Not today. Still very on brand, though."
"Are you feeling better today?" He asked her as he grabbed a bottle of water.
"Yes." She nodded. "Thank you for last night."
Scott smiled at her. "Anytime."
Scott led Cherry over to the register, where he yet again paid for their food. She didn't even have time to argue before Scott led her out of the store. "When are you going to let me pay for you?"
"Never." He answered. "It's rude to make a woman pay."
Cherry stopped walking for a moment. "My ex made me pay for everything."
