No More Denying
Cherry felt like a nervous teenager who was going on their first date. She also felt a wave of nausea. Her first date was with James. She felt the exact same was as she did now, but she had Kate and Addy. She recalled the memory with a smile. She was sitting on her bed with Kate sprawled out behind her. Addy picked out her clothes before she did Cherry's hair and makeup. Kate made fun of her for treating the first date like it was a wedding. She wished the two were still here. She knew Kate was still alive and well, but that was different.
Her and Kate haven't said a word to each other since the day of the accident. Cherry carried Kate to safety before she went to go get help. After they made sure the other was okay, they didn't reach out to each other again. They both carried too much trauma and guilt from that day.
"Cherry?" Cherry looked down at her phone where Jane's face was. She was the only one Cherry could seem to talk to about this. "You left me for a second there?
"Sorry." She apologized. "What were you saying."
"I think you should go for the cute white dress with the jean jacket. That and those cute boots are going to knock him off his feet." Cherry nodded, stepping off the camera to quickly change. Once she did, she showed it to Jane, who whistled at her. "Damn, Mama. You make me wish I swung the other way. Think Scott will share?"
Cherry laughs at her friend. "You're something else. I swear."
"But you love it." She laughs back. "Okay. I expect a call with all the details. That is if you're still alive."
Cherry scolded. "Jane! I'm not going to sleep with him on the first date."
"You have so much more resolve than me. I'd climb that man like a tree if I were you." Cherry rolled her eyes as Jane fanned herself with a piece of paper. She regretted sending Jane a photo of Scott.
"I'll talk to you later."
After the two hung up, Cherry added a few finishing touches to her look. As soon as she had finished putting her ear ring in, someone knocked on the door. She raised up on her toes to see Scott standing on the other side.
Unknowingly, both Scott and Cherry took a deep breath when the door opened. Scott looked down with a small smile as Cherry came into his sight. He let his eyes drag over her as she walked out and closed the door.
"You look beautiful."
Cherry blushed at his compliment. "You look really good, too."
Scott was wearing a blue button-down shirt that was tucked into a pair of jeans. Cherry wondered if Scott owned anything that didn't make his muscles look like they were about to rip through the shirt. Not that she was complaining.
Cherry nearly tripped when Scott grabbed her hand and led her to the car. He even opened the door for her to get in the car. She wasn't expecting him to show any sort of PDA. She loved PDA. Not the all up in other's people's faces, PDA, but she always found herself smiling when she saw other couples holding hands. She was never on the receiving end of that until now. James has always hated when she tried to do any sort of PDA.
