The sound of an engine roar and the rolling waves were the only things to be heard that morning as a Cyprus drove alone on the tar road, not a single other vehicle in sight as it took slow turns on the bends and sped up on the straight road
It had been dark when the vehicle had left the capital and now it was well past midday, the sun already finished reaching the zenith of its climb and now slowly descending down towards the distant horizon once more
In the car was a single person, dressed in form-fitting casual attire, a black shirt hugging snugly to their muscular frame and loose black pants wrapped around their legs. The man listened peacefully to the radio as it transmitted the day's events while keeping a single hand on the wheel, enjoying the salty air as it blew through his hair
Soon though, the car came to a stop overlooking the calm seas beyond. The engine went from roar to a purr as the man climbed out and made his way to the back, popping the trunk open before pulling out a thin tube of metal, some string and a few other bits and bobs as well as a case of beer before shutting the vehicle off
The man took his time walking down the pathway that led to the beach, his items fastly secured under his arms and feet firmly planted on the ground so as not to slip on the loose grains of sand on his way down
A few sea birds were in the air, but as the man placed his chair in the sand, just shy of the water's edge, there was no other sign of life. sure there were probably crabs in the sand and fish in the ocean, in fact, he was counting on it, but there was no human as far as the eye could see
Assembling his contraption, tying knots and attaching hooks the man kicked off his shoes and waded into the water, uncaring for how his pans got soaked in the salty water as he reeled his arms back
"Let's hope they got this right." The man offered a silent prayer before launching his arms forward with all his strength. In a moment the sound barrier was shattered up to three times, the water exploding out from the man's position in a perfect circle before rushing on once more
Despite this massive power, the poll heald
Content the man stood still and waited, finger to the line as he allowed his thoughts to wander off into memory

Past Timeline
2 figures, a man and a woman, sat on the busy docks in companionable silance, left alone by the hundred of workers, who rushed around fulfilling whatever task was allotted to them for that moment, and their kin, who were busy with their own preparations
The man, tall and strong dressed in full military outfit with his cap sitting on his lap, looked uncomfortable to be there, shifting often as his eyes scanned the docks and his gloved hands clenched
The woman, calm and composed dressed in robes with a small umbrella resting at her side, noticed her companion's restlessness and let loose a quiet sigh in resignation at the fact he was always like this
"You need to relax." The woman said, her eyes conveying a sense of compassion and care as she gazed upon the man who stilled at her unspoken worry before deflating with a large release of breath
The silance returned, the man unwilling to speak first and the woman waiting patiently for him to do so, instead turning her gaze to the sea and allowing her friend to organise his thoughts into a coherent manner
On the water, a battleship passed by, proudly bearing the flags of the Global Defense Force and an Iron Cross. On the helm of the ship stood a woman, tall and imposing, her aura that of cold majesty and glacial power
The woman in robes noted how her friend's eyes followed the ship as it passed, or more specifically the woman on the bow, and quickly lifted her hand to hide a small chuckle behind her fingers, though the unheated glare her friend sent showed he had heard it
"I..." The man trialled off, wringing his hands together as he followed the ship as it pulled out of port and into the open waters, joining the dozens of other ships waiting for her. The ships formed an incomplete formation, still waiting for the rest of their fleet to leave the docks
Kansen
Every ship on the water that wasn't a supply ship was one of their brethren, their kin, their family, ready to head off to war from which not all would return. They knew this. They would sail all the same. The man and woman would join them
For that was their duty
"I am afraid..." It was a quiet admission, one that could have easily been lost in the wind, yet at that moment the currents stopped and allowed his fears to be voices. Though she had been expecting such an admission, the woman still found herself surprised to hear it come from her long-time friend
He had always been a pillar of strength to all who knew him. A ship without fear and a man without pain. That's how many of their kin saw him and how humanity lauded him. Those few that did know of his fear were few and far between, less still as the war raged on
How long had it been since he had opened up? Bismarck?
She knew to remain silent
"The path before us is fraught with danger..." The man lost all strength in his body, collapsing back onto the bench and staring blankly at the sky as his hat rolled off his lap. He didn't seem to care
"The road ahead of us is perilous," She started slowly, thinking over the words to offer to a friend in need "I believe that is also what makes the journey worthwhile."
The man hummed in acceptance yet made no further comment
A few more minutes passed, the woman offering the man her silent support as he gazed off into the fleet, still awaiting them, waiting for their flagship
"Perhaps... perhaps"
The man rose, grappling his hat from where it had fallen and fixing it in place on his head. he stayed silent for a moment more before offering his hand to the lady, a hand she accepted with a dignified grace that belied her power
No more words were spoken as they left to join the fleet
-------------------------------------------
The man released the shark he had caught back into the sea as the final bits of the memory faded, a bitter smile upon his lips at the memories of happier yet still dour times
"Perhaps you were right. To a new, perilous journey then..."
The man raised his last can of beer to the ocean before downing it in a single go
"Amagi"
