Chapter 1- One Rainy Day

Tsukasa POV

Another day on my own. Saki's illness doesn't seem to be improving. My parents are always gone to the hospital with her. I know they have to, but I just wish everyone was here.

The rain poured down outside as I played piano. Twinkle, twinkle, little star. Then I thought about my pen pal. Maybe I should write to him. I have nothing else to do right now.

We had recently switched over to email so every letter we sent would instantly reach the other person. Despite this, we still wrote in letter format. Writing to him was so nice.

We both haven't been able to write as much lately. We write less and less with every day that goes by. But I had vowed to never stop writing. I opened my laptop and started a new email.

Dear, Balloon🎈

I'm stuck at home in the rain today. My sister's illness isn't getting too much better. Sorry for not being able to write as much lately. Not as many good things are happening to me. What are you up to? Inventing something crazy?

I wrote "Love, Star" because I want him to know I really do care about him. Even if we don't know each other in real life.

I hit send, and waited a few minutes for a reply. I got one rather quickly, and I was surprised at how fast he responded. I opened the email right away.

Rui POV

I sat in my room working on improving the robot in front of me. The rain poured down outside, and it made everything feel gloomy. But I was getting things done indoors, so it didn't bother me much.

I heard my phone's notification noise, so I decided to take a break and look at it. It was an email from Star. I read over the letter. "Love, Star"? He's never said that before. For some reason, it gave me butterflies in my stomach. I typed my reply back to him.

Dear, Star 🌟

What a coincidence! It's raining here too. It's okay, you don't have to write to me if you don't feel like it. I'm sorry to hear that your sister isn't doing well. I hope she gets better.

Also, I am in fact working on a robot right now. I only just took a break from it. It may or may not cause explosions.

I copied him, and wrote "Love" as well, since I love writing to him. I still have all his letters and emails to this day. Though lately, the letters have become more and more sparse, and I miss him. I got an email back within a few minutes.

You better be careful if your robot does cause explosions.

Y'know, writing to you when there's nothing else to do on a rainy day is nice. Since it's been harder for us to write lately, maybe we could just write when it rains?

It was nice to know he wants me to be careful. He's kinda cute. Writing just when it rains seems like a good idea. So I sent an email back to him, agreeing to do just that.
